My carrier won't even allow a man to train a woman any longer - unless they happen to be married to each other.

I find the entire situation to be rather unfortunate since it leaves so many aspiring lady drivers out in the cold because of the wait time to find a female trainer. Heck... 35 years ago when women first started coming into the maintenance career fields in the Air Force we had the situation under control - here we are today, and the neanderthal trainers employed by BFI carriers can't keep themselves under control. On top of it, the carriers won't take responsibility for what's going on.

    Simply pathetic.

I have only one Swift complaint since I have been interviewing Women who have experienced some sort of abuse or misconduct during training. Most of the time they are coming from a carrier who has the "Team Business Model" such as CRST, Covenant Transport or CR England these are the 3 carriers I get the bulk of complaints. Drvining alone with a guy a few days is one things but two students who are the blind leading the blind is when most of this stuff occurs. I actually refer women to give Swift a try after a bad experience and the reason why is because they will be able to drive alone in peace in a shorter period of time. I also warn them they need to pay attention because they will be on their own out there and will get zero respect is they play the helpless female routine.
Your advice is good and this thread brings up great points. When I first started writing about this the only people who would respond were people like "Fella126" that were both male & female. These type do not make up the majority of opinions in trucking so I am happy to see more intelligent debate and advice is being offered.
I try to refrain from using the "H" word because it brings out all the corporate apologists and those who are just ignorant.
I had one co-driver, a woman who got on the CB & talked crap to every guy, she also talked down to every girl. The guys would have fun with her for awhile but then it would turn ugly and she would go into this tyrannical attack mode on them. Let's say she could dish it out but she couldn't take it and this goes for the men also. The CB, I use it for weather and traffic and that is all. You cannot have a thin skin if you expect to be in a male dominated industry.
If a co-driver or trainer pressures , intimidates, badgers or forces you to have sex OR refuses to teach you because you have refused their advances and/or later has you removed from the truck , possible stranded and even fired unjustly. This is what I am referring to only. All the other stuff is an unfortunate side affect of the climate. Men can actually do a lot by stpping up and saying this is not acceptable behavior to other men. Women should be better prepared when they enter this industry so the more veteran drivers post public advice actually helps a great deal. Student do try to find threads like this to read them.
Does anyone know of a carrier that has a sexual harassment polivy in place that they teach in orientation? Do they give the student all emergency after hours numbers? I find this is skimmed over in orientation and most do not realize what or where that number is in all their paperwork until it is too late.

I am hoping to go to Schiender in July. If that dont work out I may go to Swift. I would have no problem going with a female trainer from there. I have delt with a male trainer from there and dont want to do it again and I am male. lol

/I've worked for crst and yeah I got hit on etc. But I also get treated alot better for being a girl. All the management and my fm treated me not only fairly but possibly with more concern. Unless you want to butch yourself out or are totally unattractive, the guys are gonna look at you and talk to you. We have to set boundries. I was at a truckstop and opened the door for an old timer..he patted me on the shoulder and said your the prettiest thing. I've seen in years. Should I have been upset? If I would have felt uncomfortable in any way with my male codrivers sexually, my fm would have called the cops himself and made sure I was ok, rescued the load, and soloed mehome asap. That's just my expierience tho

I am a woman trucker and a newbie at that. I work well with men and I do not want the unwanted attention. Yes we have to deal with being the outsiders because we are the minority. What the trainer did was wrong but at the same time, if he was touching on her and making her feel uncomfortable she should have gotten off the freakin truck. I have a male trainer and he made a sly comment to me and politely turned around and told his ### "I am here for you to train me and if you can't train me then I will get off this dang truck and report ur ###" He has left me alone since and has turned out to be a great trainer. U have to have thick skin to be in this male dominated industry and if u have to put your foot down or get off the truck do it! The trainers are not there to babysit ur ###, if u see ur trainer is a pig make sure u got enough money in ur pocket to catch a bus or get a motel, call the company, make sure u send an email as well, cuz if it's not in black and white it didn't happen, and get another dang trainer. Women hit on men too, do u see them running to go tell. If u can't handle being in this male dominated industry get out. If u r sexually harassed, tell someone and get away from the person as soon as possible. Don't stay on the truck, wait til training is over and then go tell! r u serious. Use ur head ladies and cell phones do have video recording with sound and all. Use it if you have to and keep it movin. We don't need a woman's revolution in the trucking industry, we just need women truckers who's skills will prove that women can do the jobs, who has a brain, oh and common sense. The rest will speak for itself and we will get our respect. Peace out.:biggrin_25522:

so prime is sued for not putting women with men in trucks and crst is liable for a bad actor in the herd
with our budget crisis the incentives for these companies to train tens of thousands of drivers every year must be stopped
they could take the money spent appealing lawsuits for accidents and bad driver interactions and use it to retain the millions trained since deregulation
i asked a female co worker who calls in sick when its snows why she didnt stay out all weekend
she said she was laying in bed getting fat might as well work
    i replied " i noticed"
she went straight to the office and reported me
verbal warning and she is gone after 10 more scrapes on equipment

Yet another reason not to put a female driver with a male trainer. WTF were they thinking?
