The DPF has a number of pressure and temperature sensors built into them. These measure back pressure across the filter media along with temperature changes both while driving and going through the ReGen process. If you gut the filter media out of the DPF and do not alter the programming to turn it off the ECM, it will show an immediate fault code and derate the engine by roughly 60% or more
PDI does write custom tunes to do this if anybody is interested. Usually the trucks pick up a big fuel mileage and power gain

Well yeh I figured you'd have to solder on some resistors or diodes or whatever to trick the computer or actually do software mods.
My old Chevy K10 pickup's catalytic converter actually gutted itself. Most of the insides blew into the muffler and clogged that up. I finally cut off the CC and opened the muffler and welded it into a straight through type and chopped out all the emissions crap off the engine. It is actually fun to drive now. It's like a whole new truck.
I can imagine the difference on a big diesel after a smart owner comes back from a visit to our inimitable Mr. H!
I plan on staying with my old mech kitty cat until the DOT retires me. -
You can put all the foolers you want and when you are going up some hill some day you will see a couple of towers on the side of the road with infered sensors that measure the pollution coming out of you vehicle, be it on the ground or out the top stack.
I am sure they will be very amused and just have a good laugh about it all? -
Air Chisel with a 18" long bit.........takes about 45 minutes, always wear a respirator while doing this

Around the Washington DC metro area in VA, the government already has mobile monitoring vans that will set up on the Interstate on ramps. The monitoring equipment is ground based to catch faulty auto emission systems. I always drive by the sensors with a no throttle application when in the truck. What I don't like about the government doing this is the fact there is also a camera to take photos of the license plate of the polluting vehicles as it passes through the monitoring zone they've set up. I haven't figured out which government body is doing this federal or state. I also have never heard of anybody receiving a letter in the mail about a vehicle that wasn't emission complaint. Whether it's for survey purposes or enforcement purposes for the states EPA emission goals, the license tag shouldn't be being recorded for any reasons. There is a big difference from an officer witnessing a crime and ticketing you with a summons to appear in court and setting up observation points to monitor the general public.......this is an infringement of our civil libertiesDL550CAT Thanks this.
