Thanks, Ready to make my start with Roehl Van or Schneider Van or Tanker. As a noob ,Tanker from the start is not what I would expect as normal. Thinking now to start at Roehl then jump to tanks after some experience.
Are you with Schneider? How's the pay/miles /hometime /opportunity's? -
well tankers are different ..but upside is u wont be doing alot of miles more stops though ..and maybe hauling a van when tanker freight dries up like it usually does ...it pays more for sure ...tanker pay is always higher than most anything else in the industry anyhow ...and getting a good local job is way easier as well. ...i see tanks at the only way to go if you are gonna be a long term trucker and want a decent living ..and not be otr forever

oh and call a recruiter for the orientation he told me everything i needed to know ...u do gotta stay clean shaven for wearing chemical masks i am keeping my stache i refuse to shave that off ...anyhow and u dont get a choice u have to wear long sleeves and pants at all times ...and training is 11days for me i am experienced already so it would be an extra week added on to your training as well ...i am pretty sure i will spend maybe 2 weeks with a trainer if that ...pay is better i only have 6mos otr and was told .40c a mile ..and 40 bucks for anything under a 100 miles and 20 bucks 100-200 miles and 10 bucks for anything 200-300 miles plus mileage ...i dont think van drivers get that now do they ?

Yea, I'm with Schneider's bulk division. I think the maximum that they can start you out at is $0.39 cpm but they need to verify a certain amount of experience. As far as hometime goes, I usually get home about every 2 weeks or so. Miles are hit and miss. One week you'll get a few short loads then the following week you might get a load taking you out west that makes up for it. You usually average around 2,000 miles a week, but that can change depending on where your home terminal is. You'll also get stop-off pay for geting loaded and unloaded...it varies between $25 and $30 for all stops, including your first and last unlike a van or reefer load.baseballcoach Thanks this.

hopefully ill get to keep mine too.thats the most traumatic thing about the whole process.shaving off the stache or not.lol. -
You'll either look a whole lot younger or just a little uglier. If you have a nice thick stash your upper lip will no longer be the same shade as the rest of your face. If your face is tan like mine.
Then there's the seperation anxiety.
The acute awareness that you are facing the world with a naked lip.
The first people you talk too will seem to be staring at your lip. And you will sometimes brush imaginary crumbs from a ghostache.mpow66m and Jackofalltrades1977 Thank this. -
Who ever fed you that line of crap should get an oscar. I've been with them for over a year & I can tell you, the pay is not like that at all. Especially if you are comming in with only 6mo exp. You'll be lucky if you get .34 / mi (OTR) anything under 200 miles is concidered short haul and that pays $25. Trailer shuttle, $20. Most of their "Long Runs" average around 650 miles. Some 1000, but most of those are for the IC drivers.
And don't even think about trying to force your truck to it's max speed 0f 63 mph. You had better get use to using the cruise & alot of shifting. If your truck showes that you are 3% or more on over speed or ecess peed more than 20 min, or Idle longer than 20%, for any quarter (3mo) you are hauled in and forced to sign an agreement to get it down where they want it, and will need to keep it there for the next 6 mo or you will not get your bonus.
here's food for thought: on average, they lose far more drivers than they hire. Example: they hired & trained well over 200+ new drivers (Bulk) last sept. By Dec, only 2 remained. They trained aprox 260 new drivers from Jan - Mar. Only 4 of them remain.
They may be a good place to start, But definately not a place to make a career
Just my thoughts, do as you will.90125-2 and baseballcoach Thank this.
