I think every newspaper should consider reprinting this, because more people need to see it.

Just be sure to turn the comments off when they do. :biggrin_25513:

    Hey, I can dream, can't I?

It's like ronin said. It's a good story but nobody really cares. Sure someone will read it and feel sorry for that driver for a minute but as soon as they're back behind the wheel in their own little world it's business as usual. It's all about me, me, me. That's why the 63 mph driver won't let up so the 64 mph driver can come on around. The 4-wheeler that doesn't use turn signals, or the one that cuts in front of you then slams on brakes. Not many courteous drivers left on the roads anymore.

It was a good article, but the part about not being able to get the driver home for his only sister's funeral is really depressing. If I was Harold, I'd go home for the funeral whether it was ok with the company or not.

Those comments are disturbing to say the least.

    Yeah...the comments....

Seems like the most common mentality amongst the motoring public is "why me lord?" when they happen to be the car that didn't make it around the big truck before the big truck came out to pass.

Just today I had a guy that took the time to roll down his window and give me and exasperated hand gesture because I didn't...slow down to 40mph so he could merge? ...run the 4 wheeler in the left lane into the median so he could merge?

    I don't know, man.

Of course, the passee not dropping a mile per hour to end the elephant race is often just as selfish and stupid, too.

    All through the day,
    I, me, mine
    I, me, mine
    I, me, mine

I'm not "out there" as much anymore, but I gotta tell you, some nights it actually DOES suck to be "home every night" (daycab)

Like the 11/14 hour rule doesn't cover the 40 minute drive from the shop to the house. Or the fact that when I do get home I've got to make dinner (assuming there's any food in the house, oops, an hour detour to the store.) do a load of laundry, shower, take out the garbage, pay bills, etc etc etc. But then I have to start my next day under 8 hours later. (somehow they always consider pre-trip and departure time the same.)

One commenter on that article had me pretty good though. Apparently "a truck trying to pass another truck" somehow resulted in him being "forced on the shoulder"?

So it had nothing to do with you trying to pass "under" (right side) the truck in his blind spot? Nahhh couldn't be.

I think that guy was referring to a truck in the hammer lane keeping a truck in the slow lane from moving left so his stupid ### could merge at whatever speed he felt like.

I'd have gone to the funeral. Either the freight could wait or I'd find a new job.

I used to think I was a loyal committed team player...but that's just not right.

Comments from the general public usually are hateful folks. It's just something we have to deal with. Consider the source, and ignore them in places like that. When driving, just keep a closer eye on them and be prepared to react.

I travel around with an uncle who is a locksmith, so I get to see the stupidity of the general public, and sometimes, it's all a person can do to not scream at them.
