If I had my own personal vehicle parked at the company yard/terminal/etc., I don't see why I'd want to take my truck home, unless it was something where the load routed me through there, and I was just stopping in for the night. It's not just repairs. These trucks are supposed to be regularly serviced. Better to let them do it on your down time, instead of making you have it done while you're on the road.
Although it might be advised that you don't leave anything particularly valuable in your truck while you're out of it.

To be honest, if I could make 30,000 a year which is what I make at my current job, id be happy trucking and doing what I love. Also, I'd love to take my assigned truck and trailer home. One reason I was looking at covenant transportation was because I might be able to take the truck and trailer home with me. Id be able to wash and clean the truck ad trailer together. Shine my tires and vacuum the floor board. Even if the truck doesn't belong to me I'd still want to treat it as if it does.

And good for you, that's the way to do it. Take care of "your" truck and show some pride. I do my best to keep my Cascadia looking nice inside and out and get the weirdest looks and comments from other company drivers about it. My rims are all polished, I've got spikes and hubcaps on all my axles and my truck is carpeted. Call it crazy, but that's more my home then where my wife and kids stay so I want it to look as nice as I can even if it is an orange company truck!

Most companies have a radius from the closest terminal to you that will determine if you take the truck home or not. All of them will allow you to park on the terminal when you go for home time.

interesting how some drivers want to take the truck home and others DO NOT want to take the truck home
i always wanted the ability to take the truck home, this way, if you want to go by the house between runs, it wont be a problem, you dont have to shuttle to a specific placeDrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
When the trucks home, you're responsible for it. At the terminal, you're not. However, at the terminal, it might get used for a temporary replacement if another driver's truck is down. I've even gone thru orientation and we used a driver's truck for the roadtest who was on home time. And one time, I finished orientation and got an immediate assignment with a load and no trucks were available, so, I was told to use truck so-n-so for the run which had the drivers stuff in it.
