    Hi all!

I am a truckers wife of 18 years. Recently he has been researching the jobs in ND in the oil fields as the work in CA is not going too well. He plans on purchasing a truck and signing on with a company/broker to do some hauling etc. We have 3 kids and we are wanting to buy a house here and on his current salary, we are not going anywhere. Can anyone tell me if this is a CRAZY idea or if they have any experience in this? He has a place to stay. His buddy has a cousin who has a house out there. He does not even know who to contact or if there really is a need. It is all talk from his friend. Any advice???

Housing is tough to find in NW ND, but jobs are very plentiful...extremely plentiful in fact. If you do get lucky enough to find housing, it is expensive.

I don't personally have experience with moving to ND as I was born and raised here, but my cousin recently got a trucking job in ND and moved his family up here after he got set up. He was from MN which has a terrible economy and no jobs. His first few months here were spent in a camper, but he got on the waiting list for an apartment building that was being built (almost completed when he moved here). He got an apartment there and his family (wife and 3 little kids) moved up there too.

That's about all the advice I can give unless you ask me specific questions I could maybe answer! Hope it helped!

    Hello and welcome!
Wow, thats a big move, please think very carefully and go check out options for yourself before hubby signs anything. I'm not sure if I read your post right, are you thinking of moving the whole family to ND, or is hubby going there alone?
Relocating is tough, especially on kids, unless they are preschoolers. What about your job, will you need to quit and find another one?

OK, I'll stop asking questions, but let us know how it all goes : )
