No, no no!
Firstly, i don't think you all understand who has to pay to support wardens of the state/foster children etc.
We do---the taxpayers. Go to a thrift store and compare prices with a new store.
Secondly, secondhand does not nessesarily mean old/out of style etc. You know kids out grow clothes fairly fast so a pair of jeans only 1 yr old might not fit the original wearer.
Are not the clothes you wear used as well? Do you only wear something once and then throw it away?
Trust me, a foster kid has more, heavier stuff on his/her mind besides where they get their clothes.
So i think this is a good move and i would support it.

And this is part of the screwed up stuff that made hubby and I, and also some friends of ours get out of being foster parents. The bureaucrats just don't get the real world situations nor do they care about these kids in reality.

Yes, I do quite understand. I also know the attitudes of the "have's", in grade school, Jr. High, and H.S. towards those who "have not"....
Most of my kids' wardrobe, was bought at second-hand stores...
BUT, they ALWAYS, got some brand-new stuff bought for them...sometimes by me, sometimes by the Fireman's Cheer Fund...
HOWEVER, they were NEVER made to feel like they were only worthy of ONLY used stuff.
Foster care, low-income, a child should NEVER be told that he/she can only get second-hand, used articles, be it clothing, shoes, book bags, etc.
There is NOTHING wrong, with stretching a dollar, to make ends meet...but to tell a child that that is ALL they can have?? IMHO...WRONG, WRONG, WRONG -
I was a foster parent for 17 yrs and to 135 teens and hard to place kids.the stigma of being a foster kid is bad enough but to dress them like they dont deserve better is a shame. There was many times I would see kids from other homes with holes in their shoes and clothes that didnt fit.I didnt have half of the troubles other fosters had because the kids know who really cares about them.Manager at finish line shoes would have extra staff there when I brought the kids in for their school nikes.10 kids walked out with new shoes beamin...priceless

Not a single thing wrong with second-hand.
EVERYTHING wrong with allowing ONLY second-hand.
It's still a crock and I get mad just reading it....still.GuysLady, simplyred1962 and Mrs T Thank this.
