I don't understand it either, BigJohn. Some people feel they need to have something certain, even if it means that they may not earn as much money. I pay drivers percentage. I remember one driver who wanted me to pay him mileage, even if it were only $0.30/mile so that he could calculate his pay. Keep in mine that he was doing much better on percentage and knew what each load paid before he accepted the load.![]()

Don't you know, when you lease to a carrier your expenses drop like a rock dropped in a lake.
I am talking to O/O's about leasing to me and I ask if they plan on going independent. Most say no because the costs are so much higher. A few have done it or looked at it and understand the costs but the extra money is not worth the hassle (these people I respect).
Just looked at another thread on Leases and lady posting how great her husband is doing. But the math works out to $.26/mile.
No IQ test before being allowed to buu a truck (that is what my wife tells me but don't understand it).BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
I think she's trying to say any idiot can buy a truck. Doesn't mean they are smart enough to keep it.BigJohn54 Thanks this.

I don't get it unless my math is flawed. The best I can come up with in additional costs for running your own authority is 0.14 - 0.18 CPM for a potential increase in revenue of 0.30 - 0.70 CPM over a lease. This includes trailer payment, maintenance and insurance. I do understand if it is about the extra responsibility and risk. It is a wise person that understands and respects their limitations.
I saw that thread too. He's working a lease for less than driver wages - WOW. -
I've talked to landstar, they told me Id be able to see the freight bill with them, just to many up and down with drivers i have talked to to make the switch, Im with JCT, and no I dont have a lease, my average pay is about $1.35cpm, plus 6 cent less than cash price at the pump, they pay for quit a bit of thing here, and pay is on loaded or empty, I never pay for lumpers, they pay for scaling the load, and other thing.to Bigjohn54, well on your statement that you cant make it with a $1.40 +fsc, well after I pay everything, encluding taxes Ive end up with about $1400.00 per week, maybe its not making me a millioniar, but Im cumfortable

I'm sure not knocking anyone that is making it on these mileage leases. In fact just the opposite. If you are making it on them you are doing a good job of managing costs.
I'm not sure how you do it. Would you share some info with me? How much is your truck payment? If you have no payment, what, if anything, are you escrowing for replacement? What kind of fuel mileage do you get? Does JCT pay for License? Permits? Fuel Tax? What do you escrow for Repairs, Maintenance and Tires? Do you have Workmen's Comp? Health Ins? How many miles do you average per week?
Trust me I'm not being critical, I'm trying to figure out how your costs are lower than mine. -
i did not own a high dollar truck and I think thats where the make or break it come in.I just sold a 99 that gave me very little problems but...many companies wont look at a old truck so I have found a 2007 that is acceptable to most.

I find that the carriers who pay the highest rates don't care about the age of your truck as long as it can pass a dot inspection and looks decent.BigJohn54 Thanks this.
