Dennis - Congrats man! Stay positive, there will be that time where you won't want to do it. Just chin up and pull through. It's worth it. (least I think so)
Hey guys,
Sitting at a TA in Gary Indiana. Going to re-power our load tomorrow to another driver then we will be heading back to SpringMo. Will spend a couple days working on backing there and then move on to taking my CDL test.
It's been a great adventure so far and I have really enjoyed it. My instructor has been awesome and I've been real happy that I was put with him. We mesh very well together and I have learned a whole lot.
I was excited today because we stopped at Iowa 80 for dinner so I got to experience 'the world's largest truck stop'. It was pretty cool and we got some fancy Taco Bell.
I feel I am as ready as I can be as far as the test goes. I do need to work on my backing a lot as I got very little time out here to do it, but after I get that out of the way, hopefully I'll be good for the test. I believe I know all I need to know as far as Pretrip and driving goes.
Only advice I can give to incoming PSDs is as I said to Dennis above. There will be a time where you will consider quitting, if you feel you can, stick with it at least that first week. You aren't committed to 'paying' the 3k till the second week starts. So use all the time you can to fully decide you want to do this.
My first day I considered leaving and I decided to stick with it. Now I love it and am shifting like a pro. It's a great feeling when things start to click in your head.
Off topic. Why the hell do bobtails insist in parking in full spots when there are bobtail spots open?
Be safe guys and wish me luck.CadetTrucker Thanks this. -
Glad to hear it... I really am looking forward to the day when things here will allow me to head to SPRMO. You and the others that post here really help those of us 'wannabe's'

I was wondering if any of the routes took Prime people thru there... I just watched a History Channel show (for at least the 3rd or 4th time
) about truck stops. I'd like to go there sometime just to look around
Keep the positive thinking going and I'm sure you won't have a problem
Can you clarify this... the 2nd week of driving or the 2nd week there? Do they actually tell you this?
What about any advances you take those first 2 weeks? I assume you are responsible for those? Any other financial responsibilities other than that, if you leave?
I'm worrying about that myself, but won't know until I try
Because they were trained by <insert name of bad trucking co here> School of Trucking and can't park?
Good Luck! Keep the pedal to the metal

I haven't made it to the I80 yet but we had a short nap at the sister one on I44 in joplin. Sweet. Instructor said not to worry the I80 will cross my path sooner than later. n that History chanel show I just drove past the one that Willie Nelson Owned. I think it is a P-Lot now but the bio fuel tanks are still there. Didn't stop as we had a Skittles Crisis on our hands and Had to Hammer down to the big Wind.
Seebs It is really cool when the shifting starts to click isn't it. I was getting really frustrated the other day myself. Intructor said I am doing the same thing every newbie does and rushing it. I was worried he thought I wasn't getting it. He said that I knew where the gears were and If I didn't that would have been an issue. Now I just needed to not rush in the pattern. He said it before but I watch him and something clicked I call it the trucker two step. That made all the difference. Last night I drove 5 minutes shy of 11 hours. I only had one mis shift and I was quick to recover. Man I love driving this thing. -
"Why do drivers insist on parking in full spots wheb bobtail parking is available?"
Ans: Because their idiots.... -
1. Possibly there weren't any bobtail slots when they pulled in...
2. If there is a dropped trailer next to them, they may be setting up a relay...
3. They're buttheads! -
Hey Seebs, just an update. Been rolling hard. The load we had for Florida the other day got repowered to a driver heading home there so we switched in Byron, GA...15 minutes from my house! My girlfriend was able to come by to see me for a few minutes so she could see the truck and meet my instructor. Then we took our repowered empty to Atlanta and picked up a load headed to Bethlehem, PA. Sitting at TA in Harrisburg waiting for 3am delivery appointment. Already preplanned on the next load
I have been getting some driving in and today I got my first 10-hour day in! Still loving it so far. Every day is a new, exciting, and sometimes scary adventure...but I wouldnt trade it for anything. So far in 4 days, I have driven thru storms, mountains, accidents, traffic jams, construction zones, and super crowded truck stops. Ready for more. Instructor hopes to have me back in Springfield to test by end of the week.... -
Wow instructor seems to be pushing you pretty hard, so in total you've been out almost 2weeks and are about to test out?
-
Ive only been out four days. U only have to do 75 hours of driving time with an instructor and I will be halfway there tomorrow. There are some things I need to work on this week with shifting, pretrip, and backing but he is comfortable with my driving.
-
That's good when I get back we r going to spend a day practing backing and then test out the road test should b no problem since I've been driving since day 1 w/ my instructor I had 10 hrs that day
