A Co-Pilot Live (Droid) Review.

copilot keeps rebooting my phone. navigon also reboots my phone. i had to have my bank reverse the charge since copilot told me to talk to google checkout. like how the heck do you get a hold of google. specially since they are the vendor.

i've since bought the pcmiler which is also made by copilot. doesn't have bells and whistles but it does the job and is cheapest. it kicks butt over the rand mcnally unit which got returned.

i see nooooo option for truck stops on my phone though. and i have both truck and live version. will have to look at my actual unit when i get back to the truck.

the only program i have that actually works is a program called sygic. it provides actual landscape. and speed limits. and sprint. even google kept losing gps signal.

 

Sounds like either you have a battery saver or optimizer app running on a droid 2.2 system, or too many programs on your phones memory. Move all apps you can to your SD to free up memory. On a EVO select Settings/Applications/select an app/ press move to SD/ repeat. Battery Optimizers and similiar Task Killers will cause crashes on Android 2.2 as these functions are already built in. Also any Car Dock on your phone can cause Co Pilot to crash as well. I use Vlingo keyboard and it is the only one I have found to be compatible with Live 8 on my Evo 4G. Hope this helps. I have continued to be impressed with Coplot Live 8. Saves so much time. Doesn't allways take me to the shipping dock, but then how many shippers put the address to the shipping/receiving entrance anyway?

 

Running a full fledged gps on anything but a premium android phone (big scscreen, decent processor, and the most modern version of android) will likely prove to be troublesome....
remeber, you can decativate the program, uninstall it, then reload/reactivate it....it might work better the second time around.
The gps signal lost issue is 100% phone dependant....depends on the phone and the truck...if the. Phone is flakey a reboot (just power on, power off or even popping the battery out for a few moments can help tons) is a good thing...many smart phone users find doing it daily helps.
I find if the program does crash ( happens less the google maps) I do not need to re-enter the destination info again like on google maps....so with it justvfor that feature.
I have my phone mouted on a airvent mount...stays cool, I can see it nicely...I found laying on the dash could getvit really hot on a sunny day...and it would act odd...remember, the phone needs a view of the sky, and the gps chip (often off by defualt) must be turned on.

 

To find truckstops on the cheaper non truck versions of copilot, just use one of the several.free/$2-5 android apps....they will even open google maps, list the miles to the truck stop. Then do an eta using google maps....you can run gopilot and google maps at the same tltime....I do sometimes....copliot counting down to the destination, then maps counting down to my stop....it can actually get funny hearing them argue....turn left...turn right...lol.

 

i have come to the conclusion that my phone is on the fritz.

any warm up in temp knocks it out and reboots it. even sprint nav is acting up now.
i have a car dock on the dash in front of the vents. running the a/c keeps it alive. otherwise it's a no go.

 

easy fix for any apply that keeps rebooting your phone or force closes go to settings>applications>manage application>all and scroll down to whichever app is giving u a problem click on it and then hit clear data that fixes most problems and I suggest getting an app that will let you know your battery temp

This is a problem with most Android phones. they are very sensitive and do not like hanging out on the dash with all the vibration. I have been able to run it riding on the passenger seat, but they are susceptible to static electricity, vibration.... I use google navigation and verify the route with my mapbook and have no trouble. When I change over I will get a dedicated device.

 

It's more like a heat issue. The phone will become unstable if it gets too hot. Mount it in front of an a/c vent to help.

ok so I have been reading this thread, I need a gps, phone and a tablet.... since I am going to think about buying these things.... would you A. buy an android phone and put the co-pilot on that? B. buy the android tablet and put the the copilot on that.... or C. buy both the phone and the tablet? any suggestions would help.... if this is a good tool would rather purchase that then a standalone gps that no one seems to agree on which is better.

 

My pick would be the phone. Some tablets don't have gps or a good way to mount in a vehicle. Also to reduce clutter.
