What do you consider cheap? What type of freight do you want to pull? What type of experience do you have?

cheap freight to me is anything less then 3.25 a mile and that has no fuel surcharge. I would love to get into heavy haul like moving equipment. I have experience in flat bed, heavy haul, van, dump, and hopper.

WOW! When you find that kind of money for a lease, please send me the company name. I'll buy more trucks and put them on.

Did you haul any freight so far?
I dont mind going cheap for that company and haul for even $2.00 per mile... as long as it is not 100 miles run per day

You might get those rates leased to a carrier if you want to do 50 or 100 mile runs. You may need your own trailer. Most of us have minimum haul rates, regardless of the mileage. I think that you will find it difficult to consistently get those rates if you are leasing to a carrier and using their trailer.

I was asked what I thought was cheap rate. Sorry I didnt say the rate for being leased on vs working independently. being leased on rate would be anything above 2.00 a mile

Won't advise you on a company to lease to due to the fact I am not sure which ones operate in your area for sure or the specifics of what you are truly looking for.

I will say to look into companies doing oilfield related work as the rates on it for the most part are well above the $2.00 a mile mark you mentioned.

There are some companies out there hauling casing at cheap/ridiculous rates which doesn't make sense, it goes in the same hole as the drill pipe so it should pay the same but for some reason it doesn't.

Drill pipe & tubing have good rates. Hauling the machinery & various equipment used in the oil patch does too.

Instead of heavy haul, which can pay well, oversized without the weight tends to pay well & is less stress on your equipment.

Thanks Soloflyer! I have talked to someone at mercer trans. and I was told after all the truck will make 2.04 a mile. My situation is I dont have my own authority yet and I dont own a trailer at the moment but I want to have both in the future and the easiest way is leasing on to company for a while to get my head above water. The man I bought my truck from in june was leased to them and said he was very pleased working with them. He also said they let you pick and choose your loads where you want to go. Anybody else have any opinions of Mercer????????????
