I know someone that can get you trucks. Do you work for a mine in Illinois? Who is the work for? Pumpco?

Hello Rockee. We are looking for an operator that has a minimum of 16 tractor / tankers in the New Town / Stanley area to help us full fill contracts. I see you have over 740 post so I would have to believe you are a wealth of information.

AC22, Rockee and all of you other guys who have given some great advice on this thread, please help me out a bit.

Here is a little about me to help you build a good answer.
    1. Raised in central MN, small town USA , know love and embrace harsh cold weather.
    2. Not afraid of hard work
    3. Currently in Iraq as a contractor, I work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, at least four months straight on a base in the middle of Iraq.
    4. I am in great health
    5. My brother is an owner op driving for about 10 years.
    6. War is over and I will be home soon

There is something very attractive to me about the harsh working conditions in ND, the idea of long hours coupled with good pay and working in an area were proportionality few can handle it appeals to me. I do not have a CDL but can get one pretty easily, I should be able to pick up a hazmat endorsement, my brother has said that he will help me with all that and I can work under his authority if need be.
Harsh hard work, long hours dont scare me. My thoughts are to buy an older tractor and maybe lease a bottom dump trailer.

Question: What are O/O really making an hour and is there any work still out there? I see Craig's list posting talking about 100/hour plus hauling sand, this sounds like good work, is it real?

If you were me, what would you do?

    Thanks from Iraq!

You mean getting paid for 12 hours a day. :biggrin_2559: Still plenty of work in ND. Lot of similar work maybe more in TX. Midland. George West area are hopping. Like cold or hot more? I talked to guy in Stanton while back. Said we work 12 on for 4 days and then 2 days off. Hell that's Christmas. I have been driving for many years but lot more money over here. When you consider tax breaks. But still want to get back to states. Was quitting in July and they made me supervisor so probably do another yr. Just too much to pass up. But more in the pot to retire or buy own tractor. Good luck!

I've been looking at this myself. I have read all these threads:

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-jobs/87919-jobs-in-nd-oil-patch.html

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-jobs/38092-great-jobs-in-texas.html

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-jobs/118320-so-you-want-haul-crude-oil.html

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-jobs/147750-why-so-hard-get-out-state.html

There is a lot of good information and company names in these threads. Most of the companies have trucks working in TX and ND. Some have trucks in areas all around the U.S.

Sometimes you are working for a company that is working for another company. It can be 30 - 45 days before the pay starts coming.

Thanks for the info Big Duker, yeah, I would like to get back to the States, I will head to the Ghan if I have to, but I would rather not. If I can get back home, be an O/O in the ND hauling sand or water around, that would be like living the dream for me. No incoming, no ied's, yeah I am getting a bit tired of that. I like the cold and the reports seem to make ND a bit more challenging. I like that as well.

You be safe and keep your head down. Do you run OTW mission, or are most of your trips ITW?

Thanks Big John 54 it sure seems like the work is there and my friends who long haul are saying their work loads are increasing as well. In theory this should put even a tighter hold on the oil field work and open up more opportunity for someone starting out. I guess at the end of the day I will just need to dive in and see if I can swim.

    Be safe,

Neither. No civilian drivers here except locals and a few Bosnians. Afghanistan is about size of TX w/ 3 main roads. 2 lanes each. Most driving is on dirt paths, creek beds and through mountain passes. Choppers take important items like class 1. And about 6 or so bases have runways. I came back as HVAC mechanic and have worked up to Supervisor. I like it better than Iraq. Not as hot. 105-115 most places. I will probably finish this yr and if economy isn't total crap come back and buy truck and get back into flat/OD freight. I hauled lots of tanks and housing to ND, CO,WY,UT before Obama and Co cut off all the permits. Lot of ND is Indian land so they are blowiing and going.
    Good luck. Stay safe brother.

Hey thanks Big Duker, Yeah, I copy that on the roads and conditions, I hear one of the majors out there are looking for a bunch of expat drivers, do they want to start up a TTM Element?

I think (hope) the next admin will open up some of those closed off areas in the Rockies, we need to better develop our own oil production capabilities.

Busy day out here, you keep your head down over there.

Thanks Big John54, I sure appreciate the links and advice. I hear you on the 30+ day pay cycle, things could go south real quick with no cash coming in. I see some posting on Craig's list paying weekly or bi weekly. I think that's where I would like to be.

    Thanks again and be safe!
