Hi folks. Was not sure where to post this, so thought this thread would be appropriate. I am not a driver. A wannabe or "wishticould", I guess. LOL. But I come in here a lot to read and learn.

But, I do enjoy watching the videos truck drivers put out on YouTube.

I came across this one, [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWab5aL111o&feature=related[/ame] as I was watching various videos regarding truckers and the Joplin Tornado.

This driver kinda worried me as I watched it as it was raining pretty good, and a lot of the other drivers seemed to be taking cautionary actions with their speed, and using flashers etc. But this guy was flying down the road. It was hard to make out the chatter on the radio, but there were people giving traffic reports about what was ahead.

The particulary interesting part of the video happens at about 1:18 or so.

The other driver was understanderbly upset with the driver who was filming, and even said the name of the company over the radio when chewing him out. The response by the filming driver was pretty embarrassing.

My question is, what would happen to the driver who did this? Do you think he got a beat down later? Or was reported to the company he drives for? Looked like it could have been a SERIOUS accident had the driver in right lane not swerved back over in time.

I just wondered what the opinions of the experienced drivers were.

I am not trying to put down drivers at all. But most of the videos I have ever seen are of safe drivers, this one caught me off guard with his driving and how he responded to the driver he almost took out.

This driver is very unsafe and will more than likely kill someone some day with his irresponsible behavior on the road. There is absolutely no excuse for driving that fast in those conditions.

Ok I viewed the video and at my advance age try not to jump the gun on assumptions. First thing I see is all the other trucks are slowing down with 4 ways on. But not our Big Time Operator. Secondly he is an aggressive driver pushing his way down the road(tailgates SUV) Hell the dumb ####### prolly doesn't even have his lights on. I have drove most of my life in heavy rainfall and yes loaded truck can and do hydroplane. Lastly profanity never ever indicates a high degree of intelligence unless your a nationally known comedian. So in summation this dillrod is the kind of guy that gives drivers as bad name.

i agree that he is driving way to fast for the conditions but the other driver did not indicate that he was changing lanes and just moved over. if this vid driver happen to crash into the other it would be a case of he said he said of sorts but this vid would be physical evidence that can be used either way by the lawyers per a warrant of course.

    guess i'll be different here..
seems this guy knew his truck and what it can and can not do..
I could count the white lines on the zipper therefore he IS NOT speeding..he is in fact NOT SLOWING DOWN as much as the rest of traffic...guess you could say HE AINT SKEERED...as far as the NutCase that came over on him...if you are going to move over for a scared 4wheeler on the side YOU BETTER MAKE SURE you are able to do so with out causing an accident...
and he did not tailgate the suv either...
    just my opinion...

This is were we disagree. No he was not speeding IF it was clear dry pavement and he would not be tail gating. BUT in those conditions with that amount of traffic he was driving over the conditions. What alot of drivers think is I can drive this within my skill level and prolly can. BUT it's not about you it's about an uncontrolled enviroment where less skilled drivers are and can make mistakes that you have no control over. Hence they put you in a situation that now has become your fault for over estimating someones abilities. Yes I have driven over 60mph on Snowpack when no one was around so not to be involved with other drivers. Not a good idea when others are on the road. IMHO.

awe come on now look at the video again you can tell he wasnt doing much more than 40 or 45 mph look how slowly the dashed lines were going by...
how many times on a nice dry day have you had some nutcase just ease on over into your lane for what ever reason...talking on the phone texting. eating or moving over for a vehicle on the side..its by NO means the drivers fault in the left lane...
remember the last storm you were driving in ...how many scardey cats were in the right lane going 25mph with the 4 ways on and how many trucks were in front of you or were you leading in the left lane going 45mph...
    the saftey issue here is
IF YOU CANT HANDLE the conditions EXIT off the Interstate dont park under a bridge.

When everybody else is going 25mph, there is a report of a road closure, tornados are on the ground and there are drivers around you who may do unpredictable things, you SLOW DOWN!! He was not going a safe speed for conditions. Additionally, his swearing and aggression tell a bigger story. His stress level was way too high. I'm guessing he was on a tight schedule and falling behind.

However. With the road closure, he's not getting very far anyway. 35mph will get him to the same stopping point as 45.

No telling what that other driver was avoiding. Someone may have taken some action around him that needed to be avoided. In situations like this, the faster driver needs to be ready for it and leave him or her self enough time and space to react to it.

Not very professional, in my opinion.
