Plus even if they don't your trainer should have one. You should be doing trip plans for every trip, however, my experience was that trainers for the most part will not sit while you do one. Once you are on grad fleet you are required to send in your trip plan before you roll. I did from time to time get away with rolling to a nearby TS to scale and sent it in before rolling from there.

If you are picking up anywhere that you will wait, meat patch, live load etc. I usually spent the time waiting to get my trip plan together and then it just took a few minutes to punch it in.

Do we HAVE to wear boots during training? On one hand the list says to bring Boots OR "work shoes" but then says no tennis shoes allowed. I'm not exactly sure what they mean by "work shoes".

Stevens does provide an atlas to O1 candidates after you qualify and before you're assigned to your first trainer.
    Save your money.

Well, been here 3 weeks now. I like it but I do have some advice/info: If you have some time to wait for orientation see if you can have a Texas CDL handbook mailed to you. You will thank me. Study chapters 2 3 5 6 & 11. 100% of your CDL test ?s (4 tests) will come from these. The tests are: General knowledge, Combination, Airbrakes & Pretrip. Also try to bring an extra $40 in case you fail your tests. You have 3 tries PER TEST. The $70 they give you is PLENTY if you shop at ALDIs & dont eat out too much

As for the trainers my personal favorites are Tim, Terry, Jerome & John. Theyre tough but fair, funny and they KNOW what theyre talking about. (Terry hates anything to do with Oklaholma).

buy the cheap paper motor carriers first , about 10 bucks at most places. then late summer you will find the big spiral bound cheap about 12 bucks. just missed it this year. in long run will save you a few bucks and just starting out , saving helps. Map is number ! on list , and other things you can pick up over time ! best of luck !

Stevens gives you one of the non laminated ones at the end of the 3 weeks of school, so no need to buy one of thiose. Save the money for a nice delux laminated one latter.

Well it's been 5 months since this whole journey began. Tomorrow I go grad and get set up to go solo. 5 months ago I was a nervous wreck. Now drive a semi like it ain't ****.

Stevens has it's issues, but I attest to the fact that they do teach you how to drive a truck.

I am a recent product of their training. 5 months ago I had never seen the inside of a semi. I had never even driven a stick.

If any prospective student has a question post it up. I'd be happy to answer.
