Yes, but before the earthquake I HATED driving on it. in stop and go traffic, you would almost get motion sick while sitting on the darned thing.. it wasn't going to stand much of a nudge before it fell over.

Yep, that was earthquake related. Way too early at this point to tell what caused it. I wouldn't even speculate at this point, much less try to make accusations of blame.

By the way, don't worry about the bridge that flexes and moves a bit, worry about the ones that don't flex or move at all. They are the ones that you should be scared of.

Okay, report from just one Minneapolis hospital...

    1 fatality

6 life threatening blunt force injuries

    22 NON life threatening injuries...

Remember this is just ONE hospital. They are sending the injured to 6 or 7 different hospitals.

There are supposedly 50 cars in the water. And there are 20 or 30 construction workers who were on the bridge at the time of the collapse who are missing.

They have now changed the water search from a "rescue" effort to a "recovery" operation.

  7. As of 10:00pm........6 dead and a least 36 hurt. The bridge was only having surface work done, so don't jump to conclusions. Some reports say maybe 50 vehicles in the water. This is a major interstate, between 150,000-200,000 vehicles per day (a lot for up here). Major traffic problems for the next few years........say a prayer.

Like when you are sitting still and a loaded dump truck goes by the other way. Then you can really feel it.

The trailer next to the bus looks like it has a Penquin on the side of it. Hopefully there aren't any more fatalities.

I have a sinking feeling the fatality rate on this is going to rise as they recover vehicles from the water.:biggrin_25513: I'm just hoping I am wrong.

I was scheduled to be in that area at that time. I changed my plans. Phones jammed, Emergency traffic coming from as far away as 90 miles.

As for it being terrorism, who knows. That bridge was 40 years old; under construction; had no backup supports; been hot out up here adding stress to the expansion joints. But then again, the timing of it, rush hour, Twins Baseball game. Only time will tell.

Good news everyone I know down there (family, friends) is all right.
