We are looking at 2 different trucks and have probably narrowed it down to either a 2005 Volvo VNL660 or a 2005 Freightliner Columbia. Does anyone have any input of either one? Good? Bad? Positive? Negative?

Is one better than the other for mileage? Is one more prone to breakdowns than the other? How hard is it to get either fixed if they break down in the middle of nowhere? What's the average life of either?

Anything posted will be useful. I will crosspost this on the Freightliner and the Volvo areas...just in case.

    TIA

I'd go Freightliner merely due to the fact parts are readily available and most anyone can work on them. Volvo is much more proprietary and they're the only ones that can work on them (aside from brakes, tires, batteries and that kind of stuff).

What do these two have for motors? That's also a big consideration.

If it was a Volvo with a Cummins Vs Columbia with a Mercedes, I'd vote Volvo. Columbia with a Detroit vs Volvo with a Volvo engine, chose the Freightliner.

I drive a volvo with a volvo engine, always broke down, most times can only be fixed by a volvo dealer, far and few between. we are looking at buying our own truck, and are looking a a freightliner with a detroit engine. I tell volvo everytime we have to go in one of there shops, they should be ashamed they even sold this truck. my boss wants to trade it off, they want 2 paid off trucks and this one for a new one. no deal. we're stuck with it! right now it's going thru a gallon of oil every 800 miles, can't find the problem.
