Starting school with Roehl in Dec. please give me all the info you can.

Somewhere on this board I kept track of my miles and my pay for my EVOs. I also kept a log for the next few months I was out of training. Do a search - it gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect as far as away time and pay, Bass Man.

I went through there in '07. Never intended to go OTR, just wanted to learn how to drive big trucks. You will probably stay at Old Dutch Apts. Old, but large rooms and has internet access in 1 common room.
It will be cold as *****. It was -29 some mornings in Nov.!!! Got up in the high teens by afternoon = felt warm.
Training was great. Met some good people. Brian and Jason were my instructors, wonder if they still teach?
If I were to go OTR Roehl would be among the ones I would seriously look at. Seems to be a good organization.
You made a good choice to train with them. Might have picked warmer months though!

Good luck... you'll need it. You will need to be resilient if you make it for one year.
All training companies are very poor places to work. You won't make the money they advertise, you won't make the bonuses and you won't get the promised miles week in and week out. If you can make it for a year then you can look for better work. You have to start somewhere and they have a decent training program. Just don't plan on hanging your hat there... they won't. They have to make room in your truck for another student.Paddington Thanks this. -
Amen and trust me Homeboy since you left there management has gotten worse. Forget about an open door policy if there ever was one. Forget about your concerns being addressed. You were smart to leave when you did.

been with roehl @10 months, had no issues really, i get it there ontime. staying on route and they leave me alone... I could go 11 days without ever speaking to my FM... I am on my second FM now and after our feeling each other out faze we will be just fine... I am also on the honor program(salary) I learned early on not to rush it. If I get the load on Friday and its 600 miles by monday delivery then do 300 miles a day so I get paid for each day.

Congratulations on your success. I have heard of the honors program. It was initiated after my departure. I suppose the salary gives you a consistent income each week, something I didn't have with Roehl. I wish you continued success.

I'm glad I found this thread. After reading a bunch of other threads about Roehl on this site, I began to question my experience. Turns out, I'm not the only one who had a bad experience at Roehl.
Orientation: I would have rated that a 4 out of 5 stars. The main guy I felt was definately a company guy. He sold the company as he should have but to this day I don't feel he should have told us some things that I later learned to be little white lies. That is the reason I knocked one star off the rating.
First Trainer: His rating was a 3 out of 5 stars. Average with some things to learn when training people. I was with him for 10 days. Young guy in his mid Twenties. Been with the company only four years. Was always on his phone looking at you tube videos and then wanted to show me as we drove down the road. He was a cool guy but he would often yell about something that never happened when he would look up from his phone. Plus I am pretty sure he was beating his you know what every night. If he wasn't, then I have no way of explaining why the truck was rocking for a good 2 to 3 minutes every night. By the time we departed, I was glad to be rid of him.
Second Trainer: Was with this guy 2 days, but it totalled about 20 hours. He had to take me home. However, by hour 14 he could tell I knew what I was doing and caught 6 hours of sleep. He even commented on how well I was driving. As I said, I was only with this guy a short period of time but from what we talked about, I could tell this guy was an above average trainer. I give him a 4 out of 5 rating.
Third Trainer: Was with this guy at the start of EVO II. I will rate him a 3.5 out of 5 stars. He had been with Roehl for 17 years when I drove with him. Seemed to always think that I should have been thinking right along with him on somethings. I'm no mind reader. This guy was in his 50's. He knew his stuff but he got awful crabby when that APU unit went out and he had to spend the last 6 days with no air. His fleet manager's ability to drag her feet on getting it fixed caused his blood to boil as well. This didn't help his ability to see things that didn't happen either. Like the flat tire he kept complaining about that never happened once he got out and saw it was still full of air. As I said, knew his stuff but I think 10 days out on the road was to long for him.
Fourth Trainer: I was with this guy for only a day. He took me from Gary to Marshfield. I drove some and we got along. Easy going guy who just let you drive. When he had a question about something he would ask you and if he liked your answer he told you. If he thought he could add to your response, he did in a professional manner. I believe he said he had been driving for 10 years. I would have liked to have been with this guy longer. I probably would have liked him the best. Above average trainer for sure.
In my four weeks of Evolution one and two training, I got to do it all. Trained on the flatbed, reefer, van and curb side.
Evolution III: Training dispatcher was at best average, a 3 out of 5 stars. He cared only that he was getting promoted. When we did spreak he would cause issues by not reading every thing I sent him. After we would "discuss" is how I will put some issues, he got a handle on what was going on. Of course, if he had paid more attention, read all the emails, he never would have caused the issues between us. Guess when you have one foot out the door, your job performance goes down.
My Truck: Older truck with lots of miles. Had no APU unit. Was told it was a training truck and that I would get a new one once I was out of EVO III. That was a lie.
Gary Fleet Manager: This guy was something else right from the start. No introduction, no hey how are you or anything. He just came straight in, sat down and started being a jerk. Needless to say we argued quite a bit in that 20 minutes about the truck and what the regional manger told me that morning versus what he was telling me then at that time concerning the job. I wasn't going to be pushed around over some issues that I knew they could have fixed and was told would be fixed by the people in Marshfield. His rating: 1 out of 5 for sure.
Mainitance department: In both Marshfield and Gary, top notch except for the loud music they played at night at Marshfield when you were trying to sleep. Rating though, 5 out of 5. These guys were top notch and knew what they were doing.
Company Directions: 2 out of 5 rating. No way I should have ever called my wife 5 different times to help me find a place I needed to go.
Fleet Managers in General: 3 out of 5 rating. Some good ones and some really bad ones.
Overall: I'd give Roehl based on my experience at 3 out of 5 at best, Average. -
This thread is old bud. Like nobody has posted in almost 2 years. Just throwing it out there.
