Sorry didn't see this the last time I was on. I graduated from American Truck School in Redding, CA June 17th and went to orientation in Rancho Cucamonga on Aug 1st. Orientation was 4 days and I was picked up by my trainer on Thursday Aug 4th at the Rancho terminal.
I'm in my 4th week with my trainer and should be done with training and in a truck the end of next week. I haven't been told what I will get for a truck yet, but I've been told there's no real pattern to what they give you, it's simply a matter of what they have when they're giving them out.
I was at orientation with 6 other guys (all experienced, I was the only rookie) and they were all assigned trucks ranging from brand new Cascadias to an old Classic with over 400k on it....some had APUs and some didn't. Seemed to be very random.
Training has gone very good for me, my trainer and I get along real well and we've kept rolling pretty good for the most part....I haven't had much time to get on the computer in the last 3 weeks. He drove the first day and I've driven everything since with the exception of 2 very tight docks, but I've gotten much better at backing the truck since I've been out here.
I drove just over 2500 miles the 1st week, 2830 the 2nd week and 2970 last week. Got my 1st 600 mile day (641) yesterday and have been all over the Northwest the last 3 weeks, we're in Denver today to deliver tonight.
So far my experience with GTI has been very positive, they preach safe and legal and everyone I've dealt with has been very helpful when they find out I'm new. I hope to stay here for a long time.mileagemax and customtanks Thank this. -
Glad to hear things are going well. Sounds like you picked a good company to work for. Give me a yell when you get your truck and maybe we can meet on the road for dinner. I am at the Pilot in North Platte, NE headed to Chicago. Stay safe buddy and I hope you get a new truck. The Challenger Thanks this.

Well, I finished training and got assigned my own truck last Friday, a 2003 Columbia with 962,000 miles on it. I was in Pacific, WA and was due my hometime since I had been out for over a month, so they routed me to Mt Vernon to pick up a load going to Sacramento (my home yard is in Sac).
I had a Sun 22:30 appt in Sac and got there a bit early, the truck ran ok for me with the exception of the transmission, it sounds like it's coming apart at times! 10th gear rollin it's ok but 7th climbing a hill it sounds horrible and idling around slow it sounds bad too.
I put in a mac10 to OTR and they told me to work with dispatch to get me to Modesto and have it looked at, I go back tomorrow morning and have already got dispatched to get down there. Was told they'd try to get me into another truck temporarily to do some short runs while mine's being fixed, not sure yet if that's gonna happen but it's encouraging that their mindset is to keep me busy and not sitting while it's being fixed.
I've had a good visit at home for the last 3 days, ready to get back at it though. Hope the truck can be fixed in a reasonable timeframe.
