The good news is that it's not hard to quit as long as you have the mind set,I quit several years before I started driving just because I'd done it long enough and the co$t had really become stuck on stupid.
I found other places I'd rather spend my money, love my toys lol.
I smoked for over 30 years and had no trouble at all giving it up.

First of all, if your employer is not drug testing his employees, he will face some pretty severe penalties if/when anything happens.

Second of all, if you are involved in an incident in which someone dies in the crash OR you are ticketed and it was either an injury crash or any of the vehicles involved must be towed from the scene of the crash, the DOT WILL drug test you. When the test comes back hot, whether it was 1 day ago or 4 weeks ago that you last smoked up, you'll be facing DUI charges. They can't tell WHEN the last time you smoked was, only that it was in your system....and if it's in your system, you are under the influence.

Not only that, but if the test comes back hot after a fatal wreck, whether it was your fault or not, you'll probably be facing vehicular manslaughter charges in addition to the DUI.

If you want to smoke pot or use any other controlled substance in your off duty time, this isn't the career for you. Do yourself (and everyone who shares the road with you) a favor and either surrender your CDL, or quit using drugs.

Just ask yourself if a Friday/Saturday night high is worth losing your license and or jail time depending on how bad you slip up or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They are required by regulations to do a drug test after an accident.

If nobody died, and the driver was not cited within 8 hours (alcohol) or 32 hours (controlled substances), then no drug test is required.

If the driver IS cited, but there are no injuries immediately treated away from the scene, and everybody drives their vehicles away under their own power, then no drug test is required.

However, if ANY vehicles are towed, or if ANYONE goes for an ambulance ride (or even drives themselves straight to the ER for immediate medical treatment)...AND the CMV driver received a citation...then drug testing is required.

I have to say that I give supertrucker credit for coming on here and posting his concern. he obviously has been in a comfortable posistion in his driving career that warrented no worries but, something has changed and he was concerned. I believe there are a lot of Marry Jane smokers out there, that may think or have thought about getting into a truck and have just never had to educate themselves concerning the drug,,and as a former smoker myself,,probably didn't care to educate themselves, until something changed that. I also want to thank those that responded to his post, I feel that all those that replied, did so professionally. Thanks
