    Couple thoughts:

    When I used to haul flats I had a "fitted" type tarp. To avoid having stuff like this from being pushed into the headboard I spiked a chunk of 4x4 right across the bottom. Just enuff room.

    BTW, why not pick up an aluminum "headache rack" for the back of the truck? Lots of em on the "used" market for cheap. Many have provision for chains, binders and such.

    Reason for not wanting to do headache rack is weight. My tractor is already heavy enough. I won't even look at loads over 47k right now when I can take almost 50k and be under 80 because I may not be able to scale out the drives. That would suck.

    I'm likely being silly about this but don't want to do it till I know it will work.

    It was my back that was suffering this morning rolling those things up. But the exercise is doing me good. Put on 30lbs when I started pulling the van.

    A normal "chain hanger" type headache rack is not that heavy. Two guys can lift it. It really won't add that much weight.

    If you was to get rid of headboard on the trailer which i imagine is steel and replace it merrit or protech(aluminum)where you can hang your chain's and binder's, you would be probably a few pound's lighter.

    I agree with diesel dave if you have and remove steel headboard from trailer then add aluminum headache rack. Your cutting weight.

    Diesel fuel weighs 7.15 pound per gallon so if your worried about weight you could always cut back on 14 gallon of fuel and that should save you another 100 pounds

    I guess i should of relayed this also. Water believe it or not weighs more per gallon at about 8.34 pounds

    It's aluminum so net weight is up plus moving it forward, not much but forward, works against me. My problem is that I am new to this. So I am not sure what type of distribution issues I am going to face. Will that 47k load be able to be slid back a bit? How much do the people loading know about weight distribution?

    So before spending the money I want to make sure. But I do know that I can put a couple more boxes on the trailer and reduce drive weight.
