    Momstar,

I do appreciate your advice and I have put much thought into that however there are other considerations besides what I have shared thus far for going with Stevens.

They are located 49 miles from where I live and that takes a lot of hassle out of getting routed close to home for time off. If I lived in Florida and was based out of Texas then that could be dicey.

I have been reading posts about Stevens that go back 12 years or so. True they had their share of challenges probably like most companies but they seem to get a lot of positive reviews now so I'm comfortable that I am going to a conscionable company. They are accredited by the state of Texas and the Workforce Commission. That being said, true they may not pay as well but if you get the miles it's like high volume car sales. Sell more for less and make more on the bottom line.

My brother said I have to pay my dues and almost all companies except for "training companies" won't hire you with less than one or two years experience.

Another unique situation I'm in. I'm receiving unemployment benefits from California and what I earn on student status with Stevens being less than my weekly benefit, California will make up the difference to equal my weekly benefit until my earnings exceed that amount so it's really a win win situation for me. Besides my military retirement, teaching retirement, I can afford it.

So, if I can provide a value added service to them, they help me build marketability and that helps everyone's bottom line.

Again, thanks for your advice Momstar, it shows that you really care and we need more of that.

    Insha'Allah

See I am in almost the same boat there. I am retired army and alittle on the civilian side of the government work. So being away from home will be hard but in the long run its win win for me as well.

Great picture in your profile opfor8d. I got pretty tire of little piss-ants that were higher up the food chain but didn't know diddly and spent most of their so called productive time making you look bad. Defense contracting is a cutthroat business and you gotta stay on your toes. Our director of Maintenance in Kuwait was an 11B Sgt and I being a retired Ordnance office with 11 years enlisted and 12 commissioned. Kind of made it hard to support the SOB when he wouldn't listen to you. Oh well, lesson learned and I survived.

I figure working out the cab of an OTR keeps me away from the flag pole and that will suit me just fine.

This doesn't sound like it belongs in the Report a Bad Company section. In fact, it sounds as though you're actually pleased with the way things are going. You should start on own thread in the proper section. I'm glad you like it. Keep up the good work.

If by CDL Mill you mean do they train you to pass the CDL test and acquire a Class A CDL then yes they do run a CDL Mill. Im not sure if I was Milled during the process but I did attend the Stevens Acadamy and passed the tests required to obtain a Class A CDL.
