I was a US Xpress driver for almost 4 yrs. It was a bad/good relationship the whole time. I had to go up the chain of command to request the miles I needed just to pay the bills,(repeatedly over the last 3 years). On the good side, there is a rider policy, good equipment, pet policy. I wouldn't trust them for a lease truck, as I have known may drivers who have lost their butts. Don't trust ANY company for loads. Get your own loads, and get experience in the industry before you lease or purchase a truck. If you get a lousy fleet manager, you can request another. If you can get into a dedicated freight lane, do it. They have a straight pay scale. OTR, you'll start with a sliding pay scale, which, in my opinion, sucks. I had an excellent boss, excellent Director of Ops Supervisor, so I was fortunate not to make less money than I did. I made 25,000 last year. You can look forward to that or less. Hauling hazmat you'll make more, of course. If you get a lemon truck assigned to you, go to the equipment coordinator with a request, not the shop, or your fleet manager, no matter what they tell you. Be aware of your DAC, as they even put down hitting a turkey with my windshield as a accident, which could affect future jobs with other companies, because of insurance costs. This was a non-preventable incident, but still factors in insurance formulas. That was just one incident. The point is, even a small incident can be counted, but make sure you report every incident you have. If they find out later you didn't report it, it makes you look bad. Play by the company policy, you'll b ok. It was a good company to start with, but I am glad I moved on. My wife, BTW, is bitter towards USX, she sat many times in the passenger seat, listening and watching both the road and how the company operated. Her assessment of USX is less than favorable. She feels I was somewhat abused. She might be right, but sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.

Wow! first honest post in a long time regarding wages at a mega carrier as a solo driver.....good job Kestreal043! I'm so sick of see these guys with less then a year, telling these storys of " I'm on track to make $45k this year" all horse hocky!
kestrel043 Thanks this. -
i've been with usx for 8 years solo and team and i've never made less than $40,000 a year but the 1st year i did only make $32,000 but that was not a full year

$25,000? And have to put up with all that collie carrier micro-managing BS? My girlfriend makes that as a security guard.
Driver's wake up! If you have 5 years experience and a clean record and aren't making near $50K, start looking. The jobs are there. Don't fall for the "We have miles" crap. You can't pay your bills with miles. -
Flood,
You were dealing with a different economy 8 years ago......heck even 5 years ago. I'm sure your a valuable player at the company at this point, but all I see these new drivers stating 200-300 mile days and spending hours looking for MTs... you aint making no 40k a year with those miles or that sliding scale they offer.
kestrel043 Thanks this. -
the last time i ran solo was after they did the sliding pay change and i was still getting 2700-3100 miles a week @.30 cpm avg = $930 gross a week X 43 weeks a year = $39,990 gross a year...
-
So now that you're running teams, what kinda pay are you getting? Are you HM or not? Thanks
-
as a team w/hm last year our gross was over $129,000 (taxable income) but we did have a good gig
now we are o/o's and this year looks to be better without running as hard
