And if there is a little skip rolling, they may hear you all the way down in Florida! It is nice to be able to "talk" whenever you need to.
-
It ain't that hard! Hams the world over do it with FAR less equipment. *I* do it with ONE HF radio (IC706 MKIIG) both mobile and base. I've logged Spain, Hawaii, South America, Israel, Russia, Serbia (or that area--I forgot the exact city), England, Germany, Italy, Australia, to name a few. If you are only familiar with CB radio, that is not a fair comparison since CB was never designed for that, nor does it have access to the frequencies on which such far lands can be found. Amateur radio IS the REAL "hobby" radio not to mention a valuable resource during disasters, the such CB radio only shows itself to be what it is: a limited, local tool and a "toy" for the most part!

My favorite "ham shack"!!!

True, but this does not make it a toy, just different.
So says the stuck up, better than you, ham guy!
CB is what it is; holier than thou, stuck up, I'm better than you hammers are what they are. (The really good, professional, hammers aren't hanging out on CB/truck driving boards either)
You know CB has probably helped as much or more than Ham radio ever did. Back in the 70's a bunch of people had CBs in their vehicles. Nobody had cell phones. I remember hearing mobile units hollering for a base station to make a 911 call for them all the time. You also had your REACT clubs that would set up rest areas on holiday weekends with free coffee. When folks broke down on the highway they would radio others to get help for them as soon as they could get to a phone.
When you use the word "toy" in reference to CB radio, you are just showing your egotistical "I'm better than you cause I'm a Ham" attitude. Course that probably makes you feel warm and fuzzy all over!Last edited: Sep 6, 2011
