I'm seriously contemplating getting off disablility to drive. Need some mo' money to save the farm, but I'm an old man at 62. I've spent hours reading here and so far haven't found any questions you guys haven't already answered if I just dig deep enough. I've seen the country, been a carney selling bbq and seafood pulling a 48' gooseneck all over the South with my F-350 and was a recruiter for a school a while back. Feel free to spill the 411 on me anytime! The last 12 years I built a beautiful Organic Farm in Asheville, NC. Had a terrible last two years weather wise and the debts are getting out of hand.

Well you came to the right place for info, you will read a lot that you wanted to know, and a whole lot more that you didn't !

So sorry that the weather is ruining your business, that sucks. I guess it makes sense to have a second business and start trucking, but at the same time its such a shame that you have to do this after you worked to hard to get the farm running.
We have our own weather expert here, GuysLady, maybe she can tell you some good websites for long range weather forecasts : )

Hey OF, I was 64 when I got into driving, 4 years ago. Went through Schneider's training program, at the Fontana, CA location. I feel it was great training. Very intense and professionally done. I was the oldest person in the class, and ended up taking honors for the highest scores overall. I have since moved over to Con-Way Truckload and am very satisfied here. Age does not seem to be a problem in this industry--as long as you can pass the physicals and do the job. I only pull a 53' dry van, so most of the time I don't even touch the freight. As jobs go, I think I "enjoy" this one as much as you can enjoy working. Let us know how you are progressing.

    Mrs T Thanks this.

I am learning I might not have a chance... three dui's... two from 90, one in 72. I was a drunk. Been sober since 1992... that'll be 20 years this coming March. I don't know what to do now. I had hopes of finding a way to get out of debt.

Are there other skills that you could turn into something? I read your other thread and commented in there regarding that issue.
