There in lies the fundamental flaw in "The War on Drugs." It is a supply and demand thing. Spend gazzillions on personnel and high tech equipment to quell the supply. Spend next to nothing to quell the demand. A no brainer. It will always come in as long as demand is there. Period.

We also ignore the billions in incarceration costs that give us ZERO return for the investment.

The following website may be of interest for this thread:

    Law Enforcement Against Prohibition
    http://www.leap.cc/

Founded on March 16, 2002, LEAP is made up of current and former members of the law enforcement and criminal justice communities who are speaking out about the failures of our existing drug policies. Those policies have failed, and continue to fail, to effectively address the problems of drug abuse, especially the problems of juvenile drug use, the problems of addiction, and the problems of crime caused by the existence of a criminal black market in drugs.

The Cartels aren't bringing the contraband across the border for their health, or because they are bored. They are bringing it because we are still demanding it. If there was no demand, they would be out of business.

This. You can never quell the supply as long as there is a demand.

Decrimilization would work also, but that's for another topic.

Pretty typical. When the discussion is lost, the subject is changed. Well done! :biggrin_25514:

The subject wasn't changed. The intention behind the creation of the article the OP posted was to bash Mexico. Wanna bash Mexico because this driver was caught on I-8? How about the American drivers that constantly get caught at the border patrol checkpoints on I-35 that bring in illegal aliens? Or American drivers that bring in contraband?

You will never quell the supply. Cartels will find some other guniea pig willing to haul their junk, regardless of their nationality.

We had someone posting trying to deny it was a Mexican trucker. I believe the intent of the O/P was to show a reason why Mexican trucks shouldn't be allowed into the heart of the country. Not to bash the entire country of Mexico.

Quite frankly, I could git a rat's butt less whether someone wants to smoke themselves inside out.

Just don't hurt anybody else and don't beg from everybody else when you realize your drug induced lack of ambition left you with nothing.

Because the source of the story is OOIDA, it lost all credibility; especially when looking at the title of the article. OOIDA is biased. So is Fox, CNN, and any other American media source. You simply cannot judge a entire industry due to the arrogance of a few drivers. That is beyond ignorant and border line racist. You also cannot make a judgement based on one article, because you will never get the full story from one article.

I agree with the 2nd part of your statement though. I don't use illegal contraband myself, and could honestly care less if it gets decriminalized.

You have to remember that it was us that created the war on drugs, and not Mexico. Just because it's illegal in the US doesn't mean it's illegal in the other 395 countries. And making something illegal is never going to stop people from still continuing on. The war on drugs still exists today because there is still a demand for the contraband. You may think it's harmless, but when you buy a dime bag, you keep these Cartels and other thugs in business.

Ah, but that wasn't the only source:

    And THIS:

I am the LAST person you want to go there with. You won't be accusing me of being racist against anyone, least of all MY OWN DAUGHTER! :biggrin_25510: Part of her heritage is Mexican. ....Just in CASE you haven't looked at the picture at the bottom of every one of my posts!

Not wanting to give up US jobs to foreign interests IS NOT RACIST.

Further, if you read what I SAID, you will understand my statement to be neutral, merely correcting your initial supposition as to the intent of the O/P:
