There were three people that traveled in August 2011 from the tribal areas of Pakistan via Dubai to the USA. One of them is an American citizen. They are to set up car or truck bombs near tunnels or bridges in New York City and/or Washington, DC. The objective was two-fold, to avenge Osama bin Laden and to show the USA that Al Queda is still relevant on the tenth annivesary of the 9-11 attacks.

First strike of terror on US soil already.

Well, I can only hope the US is ready. Anyone who couldn't forsee at least the possibility of a terrorist attack on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is either naive or a fool.
THBatMan8 Thanks this. -
And these are usually the same people that think the war in Afghanistan is too expensive and we should pull out.

There's really no way to prevent an attack. We can only perfect our response. In crowded metropolitan areas, an suv or even a U-haul, would blend right in.
Anybody see that movie Swordfish with John Travolta?
"They bomb a church, we bomb ten. They hijack a plane, we take out an airport. They execute American tourists, we tactically nuke an entire city. Our job is to make terrorism so horrific that it becomes unthinkable to attack Americans."
That's the way it ought to be.Hardlyevr, SheepDog, Hammer166 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You're right that we will never be able to defeat terrorism. Why? Terrorism knows no race, gender, nationality, or religion. Anyone can be a terrorist, and I quote:
"America will never fall from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves".
~ Abraham Lincoln
What can we prevent? By bringing the fight to the enemy (in this case Al-Queada and the Taliban), we prevent them from bringing the fight to us. Because both parties are alive and kicking, they will regroup and attack us again the moment we leave the region. We need to remember that is was them who declared war on us, we didn't declare war on them. -
*snort!*
Yeah...too bad the bleeding hearts amongst us have forgotten that.....or simply conveniently overlook it....or even mask it by saying, "Only a nation can declare war on another nation. They are not a nation, therefore, they cannot declare war. Since they are not a nation, we cannot lawfully declare war on them either."
I would love to see us take the Wyatt Earp approach: "I see a man (woman, whatever) wearing (showing) a red sash (they are a terrorist) he (she, it) will not live!"SheepDog Thanks this. -
Before Robert E. Lee surrendered,(knowing the war was lost) some of his Generals urged him to fight on,telling him they could wage guerrilla warfare based out of the Appalachians for 40+ years and not be defeated..The Generals were right, but Lee wanted the fighting to end..
My point, guerrilla warfare is nothing new,but America has to learn the rules of it,and stop being so nice. Now,I am aware there are things going on behind the scenes we know nothing about, but my point is this,-the next time we catch a terrorist, either before or after the fact,we must butcher him/her in a public execution to show we mean business..
We cannot be "civilized" with these "people" as cruelty and fear is all they understand...I agree with another poster,in that, they knock a tooth out,we knock out all your teeth, break our finger,we break your arm,etc..IMO,it is the only way. But,sadly,No one is asking me..

It is all hype...

They were a nation. The Taliban was the government power of Afghanistan, which provided a safe haven for Al-Queada to set up training camps.
