Hello all,
I thought I would start this Thread for all of us, new and exp.
I have noticed since starting with USX that a lot of things I find out, concerning how to do certain things, ie; procedures relevant to the company and its policy's, are being told to me by other drivers, not the company itself...So, that is why I started this thread,,
I will go first;
Just so I am clear on USX's ELogs, and the procedures for for your daily logs... First thing at the start of your day, whatever time that is, you hit the "Add Trip Info" button and do your pre-trip, right? Also, you do this each time you get another trailer and/or pickup another load?
Second thing is; start your day.....easy, right? LOL
Last thing you do, and each time you drop a trailer, is hit the "vehicle inspection report" tab and fill it out...right?
I leave it at that for now...be safe.
Proper Procedures...

Maybe a short check list would be in order from someone that has been out there doing this for a while. It can be a little confusing with everything in the DriverTech, and I am sure new drivers can miss something here and there??
EDIT - SheepDog, good idea on the post!! -
Thanks HD Renegade... It is just not good that you don't get told all the procedures durring Orientation... Especially for the new drivers, just starting out. I can figure alot of procedures out but, I like to do things by the book..and alot of procedures are not in "the book"...
I think your right about the checklist as well...
Here is another thing that I did not know until a NEW student told me...
When you get assigned your new truck, make sure you have these items, before you leave the yard.
1)Spare Fuses
2)Spare bulbs
3)Straps (2)
4)A gallon or two of oil
5)A gallon or two of coolant
6)Triangles
7)Seals
8)Trip Sheets
9)Trans Checks
10)and a gate pass! Don't worry too much about this one, unless you don't mind finding out when you try to leave the yard..
This is all at Tunnel Hill, USX drivers might say different about other yards..
There also may be a few things I am missing so, any of you current drivers out there, feel free to add.Everett Thanks this. -
First you do the Pre-Trip and then take off.....E-logs puts you on driving all by itself.....plus you do a Pre-Trip on every new trailer you pick up.....IF you pick up a trailer with problems then you can use the Vehicle Inspection Report to CYA.
Post-Trips are only done at the end of the day and it doesn't matter if the trailer is the 3rd one you've picked up...LOL......and that's when you do the Vehicle Inspection Report.
PTI's can be as short as 8 minutes.Last edited: Sep 9, 2011

I was thinking more of a list of what to do once you get to the receiver and drop the load and or pick up another one. Can we come up with a check list on what Macro's to run thru????
The list before leaving the yard is a good one too!! -
HD, that an easy one... Macro's 1-8 are for normal pickups and delivers with stops... Macro 15 for dropped loads,,like I did with the load I was on today, brought it to Shippensburg instead of delivering it. Macro15 also used for when you pickup a trailer,,I think. Last time I tried, it kept asking for the trailer I dropped..
Maybe someone can fill us in on this..Thanks Musicgal for stopping in on this thread.. -
In the Mac15.....just put "none" without the quotations or put 0000's in those boxes that want information you don't have.

This should be a good thread. I drove for about 8 months w/ USA, so I know what to do as far as hauling, but not 100% on the US Xpress way. The thing that sucks about orientation to, is they pull you out 12 times and you miss half the info you need. Me and my co-driver are running now though, but our driver tech frozeup this morning so we have been dispatched by phone all day
-
The driver tech dying is probably the most inconvienent thing that can happen. Our satcom antenna died and we ran for two weeks having to enter each location everytime we stopped and started. A real pain and it drives them nuts when that happens and you have a High Value Load. The sweet thing is, however, is the GPS never thinks you are out of route!
-
Ok Craig, you mentioned the dreaded "out of route". This drives my husband and me CRAZY! We are heading to Houston from Ohio right now, following exactly the route solution, and have been out of route most of the way, 175 miles so far. I do wish they would fix the issues with the OR calculator. Also., this thread is a great one for everyone. We need to spread the word so other USX drivers can benefit.
mtnMoma Thanks this.
