Ok here is the catch...i live in south Florida
I know alot of companies don't run down here.
I have an uncle that drives for CRST but he is living in Ohio and that makes a difference I know. They give him miles he has told me he has way more than enough.
Well anyway i called them and they said I was good to go to school after a background check and living in South Florida would be fine.....the recruiter didn't seem to have an issue (which I know a recruiter will be fine with since they go home every night). All I have to do is give the recruiter a call when I am ready to go.
My uncle HAS made it down here a few times.
Right now home-time is not a big issue...paying rent is a bigger one.
    RANDOM QUESTIONS....
How much driving are you expected to do within the regulations?
How much paperwork do you do after driving all day?
How hard is the actual school to get the CDL (on average)?
MORE QUESTIONS TO COME I AM SURE......
I have a family but the economy killed us a couple of years ago so i was just curious which way I should go with this. I know I will get some smarta$$ answers but its ok I am a good sport
    Thanks in advance!!!

It's been a while since I worried about how to pay for my CDL, so I can't be of great help to you there. I know several companies have their own CLD schools, and I believe that they cover everything.....however they are going to own you for the next year or so. If you leave the company before the agreed upon period is over, you will owe them more money that you want to think about. So be sure you choose a company you are willing to be married to for a while.

How much driving? I think you will find that as a company driver, 2500 miles a week is a good goal to shoot for. If you get more, that's great. But don't ever count on it. At the same time, don't be surprised if you only get 2200. During January to March, you may find the miles even harder to get......and end up with 1000 to 1500 a week during this dry period.

Paperwork......not much at the end of the day if you keep up with it DURING the day. Keep your logs up to date to the last change in status. Make sure that all receipts are taken care of and put in the trip pack AS THEY OCCUR. Fill out your post trip inspection report, close out your logs, do your hours recap, get the next days log ready to go. Shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes at the end of the day.....maybe less if it's a good day.

How hard is the school? Depends on the individual. Different people have different abilities, and different learning curves. The classroom stuff is easy. Going forward in the truck is easy - just remember you are dragging around a 53 foot tail when you have to make a turn or do a lane change. Backing is what people have the most difficulty with. Doing it well enough to get a CDL isn't the same as doing it well enough to keep your job after you finish training. Go to truck stops and watch people back into the holes. You will know if they are doing it right. See what works and what doesn't. And always remember - your job is to put the truck where it needs to be in order to put the trailer where it HAS to be. Doesn't matter whether you are going forward or backward.

Over the road trucking isn't a job. It is a lifestyle. Keep this in mind as you do your investigations.

    Good luck!
