Had a 5am delivery at COSTCO in Parker, Co. this morning. When I got there, there was a SWIFT truck in one of the docks so I backed in next to her. When we went to check in, the clerk looked at her paperwork and told her that her appt. wasn't until 9/16. The woman looked at her quizzingly, then proceed to say in Spanish (as we later learned) that no she was told to be there at 5am on 9/15. The clerk pointed to the delivery date/time on the paperwork several times and the driver just flat out didn't understand her.
A driver for the one of the bakery companies was standing to the side and started talking to the SWIFT driver in Spanish, he asked her a couple of times if she spoke English, she replied no each time. When I went out to open my doors and back to the dock, she was furiously typing on her QC.
When I went back inside, the clerk was on the phone with someone from SWIFT explaining that the paperwork showed a 9/16 delivery and the PO also showed a 9/16 delivery in their system. She also wanted to know why the driver didn't speak any English, she wasn't able to communicate with them at all. 20 minutes later, the female driver and male co-driver, who turned out to be her husband came inside. He spoke slightly better, as in a couple of works, English, but kept asking them to speak spanish to him.
When I got to Kremmling, Co. a few hours later for a pickup, there was another SWIFT truck in there, this driver also spoke very little english, thankfully the forklift driver is bi-lingual.

If I'm not mistaken, it is part of the Fed regs that one must be able to read, write and speak English.

they probably spoke English fine.
I find some "forget" how to speak it when it becomes easier to. Was proly hoping by saying they didn't understand English that the receiver would just take em.
My wife is German, and when we wanna we speak German and tell the other people we don't speak English, sometimes it works, some times it don't, but we always get a laugh out of it.Big Don and Elvenhome21 Thank this. -
I've seen a lot of Celedon drivers like this as well. Funny when they were told leave the #### property or face the police their english cleared right up. We had methods growing up in Co New Mexico for the supposed No Se crowd. Probably get me banned discussing them on here.
I'll have to find it but some put a bill in the Tn house to quit providing CDL handbooks in spanish, swahili, Chek, russian..........I think all told they had like 12 languages and were required to provide a translator if needed for the day of issuance.Lilbit Thanks this. -

Where I am at, it's not only the spanish speaking... But the Russians... It's bad, not only can they not speak english, they are rude, drive like idiots, and have not courtesy for the other driver...
However, with the new CSA rule, for speaking, and reading english "Fluent" They are starting to get the ole boot out the door.Last edited: Sep 16, 2011
