According to the California Emission Regulation that take effect in 2012, a 2000 through 2001 model trucks will require a PM filter to go from 2013 to 2022, then a 2010 engine.

Yea, they want history and usually a lease agreement if you expect financing. Of course if you pay cash, then it doesn't matter. It will be virtually impossible to get financing as an Independent O/O and whatever you do - DONT take out a 2nd mortgage. I still can't believe dealers encourage this crap....what a joke. Miss a few payments and good bye house.

If you want to purchase a truck of this vintage (and pass on any VOLVO - they are utter junk) - consider a Pete or KW....but also have a hefty maintenance fund.
Best target I think to have is about $15-$20k for this.

..as I said in another post, my buddy had his N14 suck a valve. Took the turbo out. All said and done, $7k at an independent shop. The dealers wanted $12-15k.
...so if you buy a used rig you NEED a decent fund to rely on for a bad day like that...

From the way I understand it, the regs take place Jan 1st, 2012 in California for pre-02 models. Anyone else know???

:biggrin_2554:According to their table, starting in January will effect 1996-1999 to have a PM Filter from 2012 to 2020. Then they will have to have a 2010 engine.

$10-20k on a retrofit. Cheaper to leave Ca.

Honestly, if I lived in California, I would be a company driver. Couldn't afford to do anything else.

And I'd also have a diesel pick up truck, since the cost of gas is thru the roof there as well, and take my company truck by the house each week for a little "fill up" ;)
