With a company based in PHX AZ Theft is a big prob in that area (especially in the upstanding area the HQ is located) Cant blame em for having to state the policy plain and clear. It must be an issue or it wouldnt be in the manual...

I hate to admit it but that was my first driving job out of Truck driving school in '90. I was put in a truck with a trainer in Portland, OR heading south to LA during the middle of winter. I was put right in the seat driving. As soon as I left the yard, before I even hit I-5, the trainer climbed into the bunk and went to sleep. When I hit the Siskiyou mountain pass I hit a blizzard. The snow/slush was freezing on the window and wipers as soon as it hit. I had to keep pulling over to get the ice off the windshield. The pass had 8-10" of snow and slick. I couldn't wake the trainer up so kept going. Evidently he had been running for 30 hours. That's why they put me with him, so he could get the load to LA in time. So dispatch knew he was going to crawl into the sleeper and sleep. Fortunately I didn't have any problems and made it over the pass ok.
My wife went to work for swift too. When she was training with her trainer, she did the same thing to my wife. Made here drive over Snoqualmy pass iced over with a set of empty joints when the ice was so bad, all the other truckers were shutting it down. And yes her trainer went back to the sleeper and slept during that too (she was in a hurry to get to seattle to hook up with her truck driver boyfriend)
This is just a couple of hundreds of Swift stories I could tell you.
So needless to say, I have no respect for Swift and there so called training.
Thankfully I quit there and went to work for real drivers who taught me the right way to drive. -

Sounds like its good you left then. did you contact the safety mgr when this was going on? is so what did they say?
-
Let me ask you something. Have you ever taken a problem to the Safety Manager at any place you worked? If so, just how did it go? If you didn't do it and still worked there after word for any length of time, good for you. You got lucky.
I've been through it with dispatchers, safety managers, etc in my career. Bottom line is they want the freight moved and if you want to complain they are more then happy to take you out of the truck so you don't have to do it. But you'll lose that truck to someone that will. Just the way it is.majortom Thanks this. -
I currently work for Fed Ex ground. In the past 2 years almost 3 Ive had 2 issues that ive gone to the safety mgr about one was for equipment and the other was a dispatch issue, both times the issue has been resolved no harm to me or the contractor i work for. I just feel better safe then sorry!
