    I think the other advantage is, with more power, you can cut the lips off the next guy if you wanted to, provided you have more power than he does.

    Ok so I have the radio back in my truck. The SWR is good and nothing changed in my antenna setup or coax. What has changed is the RFX addition and 12 gauge wire both positive and negative grounded. I have run this to the cigarette lighter (not to many options company truck and batteries are at the back below catwalk).

    So the problem is my antenna light comes on now. It only comes on once I start talking. If I just have a dead key then the antenna light does not come on.

    I am running a cobra 29 wx nw bt. Dual Wilson 2000 antennas. In a freightliner fld-120.

    I don't know if there is an actual problem or if it's just what happened when you add the rfx

    Also now the lights on radio dim a little. I know this is cause by the extra power required for the rfx. Is there a way to fix this?? Wiring to battery isn't an option. Our motorola work radios are wired under the dash with big gauge wire I could probably wire into this but the light socket is more convenient for me.

    Assuming you've verified a proper SWR with a real external SWR meter, it means that whoever installed your RFX-75 didn't complete the job by tweeking the radio's SWR light to compensate for the additional power the RFX-75 provides.

    Well I use the meter on the radio. If this isn't a good meter then why would they put them in the radios??

    I guess I could find out what a external meter sells for.

    Will any external meter do?? Like a $24 workman or something from radio shack/ the source etc

    First, your going to HAVE to find more POWER source. The cigarette thing isn't going to cut it period.

    I dunno, I run a 300w inverter and an 850w inverter off the cig lighter plugs in several truck with little to no problems. Never tried running the cb off it (I have the same 29LTD RFX75 radio) but it does run fine off the cig lighter in my pickup truck. I know that's got less power behind it, but there's no problems with it, antenna light stays off.

    I did have to put that dipole antenna I built on the pickup for it to work, though. It hated the little magnet mount I had laying around.

    You're not running it with the stock antenna cables, are you? It didn't like those in my last truck either, had to run a new, higher quality cable.

    No I am running my own cables for a dual-phase setup...

    I called the radio shop about the light.. They told me to bring it in and they will fix calibrate the antenna light on it... They said they never got a antenna light come on at the shop but maybe they were not speaking loud enough or something lol...

    I wanna get a aftermarket SWR meter to double check my antenna's.... I think the one in the radio works just fine tho.. But everyone always talks about external ones.... All I know is my antenna light was fine prior to the RFX so I can't see how the meter in the radio isn't enough.. Maybe they just need to calibrate the light...

    The fading of the lights seemed to go away.. I got a little more RF noise through the speaker with this higher wattage tho.. I do notice that... The cigarette light is just the more convenient way for me... In case I were to get moved to another truck or something... I am gonna take the cover off that is infront of the shifter.. Maybe there is a spot in there to wire the radio to.. Like the same spot my work radio is wired into..
