@ prime rib: you are exactly right, I came off the road in early 90's when a family member was gravely ill and drove cab. Made made anywhere from $150.00 to $200.00 a day ( that's after making the daily lease payment). I made it a prime objective I would stay out as long as it took to make no less than twice the amount I had to pay them. Some days it was easy, others not as much. Definitely had to learn what parts of town to stay out of at certain times of the day. Probably would have stuck with it except for the fact that a good friend I knew from the job was killed doing "one last run" for the day, all he had was less than 20 bucks when he was killed. That was enough for me. They'll kill you for a pocketful of money and also kill you if you don't have enough.
