Things change weekly lol For one, no more Macks. Almost all Freightliners n Petes now. A few Internationals n KWs thrown in. Can't tell ya bout the lease side since I have no experience with it

NYC? Easy way to deal with it. Midnite to 4AM. Otherwise take the Tappan Zee, and go around.
That's about the same for fixed expenses these days... probably a little more now because of the increased cost with the EPA2010 engines. We're paying for reefer fuel we use now (not so good,) but the controllers in the new Carrier reefer units are real miserly compared to the old ThermoKings (much improved0 - the only time you spend a lot in reefer fuel is late summer with a frozen or ice cream load.
The fuel bill is still the gating factor on your weekly cashflow, lots of loads, and it will depend a lot on who your FM is.Last edited: Sep 20, 2011

If I would've had a choice IP I sure would've avoided it lol But atleast I can say I've driven a rig through NYC lol

what is the difference between flatbed and reefer in driving, what is your reason for wanting to switch to flatbed?
BTW thanks for your updates, i know that prime is where i want to be. i am waiting to get a leave date, sometime after Oct. 9th when i'll be finished with school.
i am a little nervous because i never drove a big truck, but excited and ready to learn as much as i can before the snow starts.
one more question, do you know if prime drivers drive through and to Canada? i've always wanted to see some of that country. -
I am going over to flatbed because I want the physical work. Prime does infact run into Canada. We dropped a flower load at the border for another Prime drive to finish. It is nerve racking at first. I had never been in a rig til I got into Cage's truck when I got to orientation. It becomes second nature after a little while

Like ORD said it becomes second nature pretty quickly. It was a white knuckle ride that first day. Every day gets better. While it gets easier you learn everyday. YOu just have to get used to how big you are on the road. And for me it is all about putting myself in a position to make safe choices before they become oh crap moments. I see drivers every day push into tight spots. You will do fine if you just drive to live. Priority 1 deliver load safely. Priority 2 Deliver load on time. Proper planning makes these 2 very easy to achieve

UPDATE: Took and passed my upgrade test on the simulator. Now all I have left is doing classes. Hoping to be gone by this time next week.

Told you that you'd knock it outta the park. Gratz!

OpenRoadDreamer, I was told that the weekly payment is $50. But it is a total of $1,000 with $300 up front.
I know what you mean about the furball. Mine hates being off the truck.
I'll be starting in about 2-3 weeks myself.
