sorry for moaning about it, i understand why it is like this, however im sure the shipper is paying a somewhat fair rate, and the broker is screwing us over, and yes it is an insult the cpm coming out of florida is a joke, the big companies can suck it up, its the O/O like me who really takes the hit, is complaining about it gonna do any good, most likely not, is $3 a mile coming in make it worth it, no!! every load you take has a chance of a break down, flat tire, or some other expense, and like someone else said, would you work for nothing, is it ok for the outbound broker to rip you off because he knows you may have made some money on the way in, no, are all truckers going to come together and say no to cheap freight, no, only an act of legislation, or broker rules will change anything, if i did not live here in Florida i most likely would not care much, but i do, and i aint moving!! but the van is gone, flatbed is here.

While I agree freight is cheap out of Florida I have had a chance to log onto load boards at times, I have found some loads are not that bad or heavy and that is less than 42,000 for the load.

    Examples: 9/20/2011

Flatbed load 900.00 for 290 miles, Fl to Louisiana 3.10 per mile no tarp 2 loads

Flatbed load 600 for 218 miles, Fl to GA 2.75 cents per mile no tarp 2 loads

These are just a few examples of loads, not disputing the cheap freight but the industry and O/O have driven down the rates and until it stops the pay will not get any better.

Now look at where these are originating from. Judging by the miles, they are northern FL, most likely Jacksonville or the Pan-handle. Anything south of Ocala usually drops to $1 a mile or less.

900.00 load is located in Alford, FL

600.00 load is located in Blountstown, FL

I did not check the board for much but just examples found ready and available when I punched in flatbed full load and Florida, I have found loads just like these with rates coming out of Clearwater and other places down south Florida.

Planning and good management of when what and where gets you the better paying loads, some places have cheap freight but that is the fault of people who pull it. Brokers or shippers cannot be the blame for everything nor the rates, when a O/O cries about cheap freight they need to put the blame where it belongs.

On the trucks that pull it.

    G/MAN Thanks this.

What load board are you looking at? I don't run FL but I may end up down in Jacksonville next week? Most of the stuff we see out of there is pretty cheap.

I log into broker boards, unless you are a registered carrier they are not public.

Have a veggie broker coming down for fall freight and he pays well also and that is coming out of all over the state, that is reefer only produce and I know he pays well and once you send the signed BOL after delivery he pays in 10 days. He also pays the full fuel surcharge and no flat rate B.S.

I do not mess with the 30 day pay clowns, and if you do make sure you know who you are dealing with and do the homework and investigate them well. Learned the hard way that it takes due diligence to make sure people will not rip you off.

Was all this freight coming out of the north.

We had a truck down in FL farther a few weeks ago and he ended up deadheading to GA to get something decent.

Which freight? Flat bed or reefer, I post toe different types of configurations.

Reefer loads come from all over the state, Lemons and limes are coming in season soon and they are a easy load for a reefer and stable.

So what equipment are you pulling and what load weight can you haul?

Flats and steps. Weight depends on the rate but most of the time we can handle 48k.

If I go next week I'll have the step and should be able to haul 47k.
