from what I've been told is that the SCR reduces the contaminents in the exhaust before it reaches the DPF filter so the filter doesn't fill up as fast and the system doesn't need to regen as often. Also, i guess the DPF system has been tweeked a little and some of the bugs have been worked out.
I know a couple of mechanics at a large Freightliner dealership and they said since the SCR equipped trucks have been out they have gotten in very few with problems, something they sid never happened with the pre SCR trucks.
