The SOS said nothing about a chauffeur's license, so I don't know where that came from--might have been an old rule or something. You should probably get your permit in Missouri because your first CDL will come from Missouri. Then you will be routed to return to Michigan where you will exchange your Missouri CDL for a Michigan CDL for the cost of the transfer. The only other costs are the "extras" on your CDL like haz mat. Gotta do that no matter what. And there's that extra cost. Call or write your SOS if you have questions just to validate any info you get here.

I live south of Grand Rapids.

it is best to get your permit before coming to prime. There are tons of threads about this. but it makes the first few days much less stressful and gives you one less thing to worry about.

Except that the lovely person I talked to in the Michigan Secretary of State's office said that a Michigan CDL permit is only good in Michigan. I cannot validate that that lovely person spoke with any authority of knowledge or not and whether Missouri accepts it or not is up to Missouri, I guess. For me, taking only one set of tests will be the best way. Since the CDL tests are all very similar and since I don't know much about the subject, anyway, taking the Missouri tests won't be so stressful.

Whether that works for anyone else is up to Anyone Else. :biggrin_25523:

Your recruiter should know if MO would accept a MI CDL permit.

Well. You have to be accepted for it. They run a back ground check on and they also check all your past work histories and references.

Technically, this takes about a week.

So providing everything went through, you could be there a week after you talk to a recruiter. Thats at earliest and providing your recruiter isn't busy of course.

I do not intend to steal this thread.
    I am also considering Prime.
I am 2 months from 21 and seriously looking around at companies and schools.
I have read the CDL handbook and taken practice tests- scored 80% or better. Need to do some rereading...

I originally wanted to go to CR England because their local school is less than 10 miles from my house, but after reading around I don't want to anymore.

From what I have seen of Prime, I like it. I will certainly keep an eye on your process.

I live in Midlothian, Texas, about 30 miles south of Dallas. Does Prime hire out of Texas?
