We had to get out of Hernando county when the housing market tanked, if both my wife and I could be gainfully employed there we would not have left. I had a decent job in Wildwood but she was struggling to find work so we moved to Tallahassee, we made good money there but she wants more for her life; hence the relocation to PA, her parents offered to put her through nursing school if we moved up here for the year. So here we are.

The big difference up here is these companies don't do anything for free and they pass that along to their drivers. I've never been paid so well in my life for down time, in Florida it was like pulling teeth to get paid for anything outside of the normal driving. This company gives the 1st hour to the receiver, then it's all on the clock from there and like I said he pays us very well from the money the truck receives.

PA as a whole is a big change but I'm getting used to it as the days go by. Do I think we'll stay? Too early to say, but I do miss Florida, but the way they treat their drivers up here is like nothing I've ever seen before. This company actually appreciates their guys and pays them very fairly for what they do.

Hey JackMac, send me a PM. I'm very interested in hearing more about the dedicated driving job from Melbourne and back. I've currently been working for a company for the past 5 months and only been home to Florida 3 times for about 2 1/2 days each visit. The money and miles are decent, and some money is better than no money, but I'm looking for something a lot more dedicated that will have me back to Florida ya know. If it's still available, please, PM me and we could go from there.

How are things still going there?

All these guys from Spring Hill going FFE!!! I know it's tough getting hired from here but.... OK, all kidding aside... Hope it's working and workd for you both, in the 9 yrs I'm in Spring Hill most of the companies either wants 3+ weeks out and pay so so or want you to work on a 1099 paying even worse!!! Been lucky so far but CSA and economy are thinning the ranks of prospective employers greatly!!!
    Good luck Jellybeanz and Spat!!

    Jellybeanz Thanks this.

Thanks jlind yeah didn't get many open doors since I've not driven since 2005. Had to go back through some kind of schooling again to get hired. Figured I can hang and do my time for the 1yr to get it all paid for. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Re. waw. I Worked there a week it was my experience that they run paper logs and will run you without proper breaks, this forces you to doctor logs. they have a terrible csa score and have a dot audit this week. kinda curious to see how that works out for them. most of the people in the office were nice with exception for dispatch, we did not hit it off from jump street. likely cause,... was my negative attitude towards running against DOT regulations. Their trucks are highly maintained late model long nose peterbuilt's. The trucks ran great. They seem a bit harsh when calling in for basic information, ie. load info, pu. number or any other questions. one other grievousness complaint their parking area is horrific you could easily flip a trailer in their lot, sugar sand pits and enormous potholes. seems like a good fit for the right kind of driver, but not for me.
