I dunno. Mine doesn't dim wired in to the truck or plugged into the cig lighter in my pickup. That might be an issue on your truck with the wiring to that cig lighter outlet.

I believe because of the increase in power, there is more signal being reflected back to antenna. 5 watts is nothing. 20x that,it's a different story.

I just plugged mine into the cig outlet to see what would happen and because the guard shack was on channel 2 and the old radio shack this truck came with is stuck on 19. With it plugged into the outlet hooked up to a 2 foot 200 watt wilson antenna that I was holding in my hand, it worked just fine. No light, no dimming, just some rf noise from the inverter that was plugged into the outlet next to it. There seems to be something unique to your setup that's causing the problem.

    Update:
My Galaxy Pluto which I had a RFX 75 upgrade quit working. I had noticed the last few weeks after taking quite a bit on the radio, it would heat up and start sounding scratchy. After it would cool down, it would work right.
So last week I was talking on the radio and all of sudden the needle dropped as I talking on the radio and next thing I could smell something electrical burning. I couldn't see smoke and all my gauges in the truck were normal.
The other driver I was talking to said he couldn't hear me nearly as strong. "Conclusion", the RFX 75 burnt out. I have been to busy at work and I need to take it to get it check out from the installer I got it from.
My question is, will the whole set up(rfx75) will need to be replaced or just the mosfet inside it ? Btw, had this installed around 8 or 9 years ago.
Let me add, the reason I did the upgrade way back was because the original mosfet or finals (which ever) where burnt or wore out for the Galaxy Pluto, the tech said the best replacement and upgrade was the RFX 75. It has work well all this time.
As of now, I have back up radio in, Galaxy 44.

20 watts swing, 100 watts swing on a loose meter isn't going to make a bit of difference. The real difference that you will hear is from optimizing your antenna system and power system. Until you move into 400watt plus territory you are wasting your money.

This was an old thread and instead of starting a new one(like the newbies do without the research) I figured I would REVIVE this one

Do you need to look at other things to figure out why it toasted?

The mosfets can be replaced, but I would have everything else checked no matter what because unless it was a crap install, there isn't a reason for them to go out.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.

I know who did yours. I was asking the guy in canada who "mysteriously" has issues after having the rfx installed.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.
