lol ok, I didn't see that as it was posted during my writing and sending. 100+ oor is a little much. Actually too much. 60 maybe but doing that requires the sense to call first. If he saw he wasn't going to make it he should have know early enough in the day to let someone know and then stop on the way there. Can't say the last time I was 65miles from somewhere to park even if it was a Wal Mart parking lot

 

I believe Bear use to drive OTR years ago so he has been around. I don't think Millis is a bottom feeding company or I certainly would not be considering employment with them. If you read the Millis section you don't see many complaints coming out of there. Every company has rules.

 

I can say in my whopping week of training had to go out of route 25 miles to get somewhere to park in austin. So 50 miles total. Got to delivery no parking avail. Wouldn't take load early. Qc dispatch and told them had to drive 25 miles to park for night no problem with it. Not paid for it but still no problem. But again that's my whopping week of Exp.

 

Well stated...I can relate a story here...I was supposed to pick up a coil from the port down in New Orleans, I had time to make the pickup...but the directions I had were not very clear...and I took the wrong part of the US90 split...Pissed me off (I have a short fuse sometimes), and the only parking I knew of in the area was a place that you have to pay to park (I DO NOT PAY TO PARK...period!)....so I drove 29 miles (IIRC) back up to Laplace (Pilot...free shower).

While I was trying to find my way out of downtown New Orleans...I skipped the company and called the port myself and explained the situation...he asked if I could still make the delivery if I picked it up first thing the next morning...I said "sure I can" (and I did)...then I called my FM and told her the deal I had made with the shipper. I was in Laplace by this time...she asked where I was (she probably already knew) and I told her...she said "why are you all the way up there?"...and I told her..."I do not pay to park, I need a shower...and have you been to New Orleans lately?" (this was almost 2 years ago...as in after Katrina)

Nothing else was ever said about it...

I been there and done that.
Receiver kicked me out. No waiting. Went to fast food joint and used restroom.
Nearest trucks stop was god knows were cause I couldn't find it.
I ended up with no shower. Not good.
I also ended up on the side of an off ramp in a snow storm. Cause my eobr would of screwed my had I of gone any further, it would of kicked me in to out ad time.
So Yes I been there and done that. Not once but twice.

He could of called and spoke to someone. And avoided being fired. My place probably wouldn't fire you the first time but after another sure they wouldn't like it and will consider termination.
All I'm saying is he took it upon him self to drive way out of route (60 miles one way) with out saying anything. Im not suprised he got sht canned.
So don't tell me to use common sense until I been there. I have been there and speak from experience.
HE should have called someone and explained his situation. THATS all IM saying.

I have been at a shipper and the dispatch told me to park on the street next to the no parking sign.

Move the truck and you will be in trouble.

APU quit and it was 20 below and the truck would not idle. Got empty and it was 20 miles to the yard.

I told them I was bringing truck in.

Dispatcher on arrival.

You are in trouble for moving truck.
Why?
You moved it without dispatch or taking load.
Why worry? I was not going to accept any load.
Dispatcher: Why?

NO HEAT.

I guess you willl not be billed the miles for driving out of route.

I remember these types of companies well.

Nashville to Chickamauga:145 miles(I assume these are close to Paid miles?)

OP stated he went to Cartersville instead,,and then back to Chickamauga,,so he went Nash>Cartersville>Chickamauga:
Total miles:280 miles

Dont know anything about Millis and or its handbook,but if a driver that just added 100% of the paid miles to a trip I assume that the company might be inclined to be a little harsh,I know mine would
