Glad to see this tread getting back on track. It seems as though people here lately. Are blaming everyone but themselves for their issues. Whatever their issues are.

Most people do it locally. Like you said, If there is a DOT issue, a lot of the time that will only be a couple hundred bucks, and it won't be worth driving all the way back to us if they live a ways away.

I appreciate the input of this board. After talking to numerous dealers over the last couple days I have found that most of the top dealers will allow the customer to get local inspections as part of their test drive without having to insure the truck. Lone Mountain will also do this going forward.

We will still allow out of town/state inspections, but they must be done within 48 hours of taking the truck, the truck must be insured, and all repairs will still need to be made at one of our shops.

Our website will also reflect this.

Again, thank you for the comments and criticism. It has made Lone Mountain a better place to buy a truck.

    my thoughts on this.
Even i would bring a mechanic, (im a driver of twenty years)
do some research and find one in their area (lone mountain)
its a big purchase and even though i can put my coveralls on and do a good inspection im not a mechanic. im sure im going to miss something. I mean really you would'nt buy a house with out a home inspector inspection first would ya.
If you cant afford a machanic to look it over before to take for a final dot insp i dont think you should be there.
exspecialy if they will fix what ever you find before you leave.
    cost of mechanic xx.xx:yes2557:
cost of repairs on road plus maybe a hook too XXXXXXXXX.xxx:biggrin_25510:
    GET IT! JMO
you have only yourself to blame if you dont do it wright:biggrin_25521:

I got my truck from lone mountain about a year and 1/2 ago, and it's just the luck of the draw. I made the mistake of getting hasty, and not only took a volvo, but a volvo that had been beat to hell as a heavy hauler before I got it. There were plenty of 10 speed volvo's in decent shape to pick from, but I just HAD to have a 13, and they only had the 1 in a volvo, which was also the oldest volvo they had (05 in feb 10). I got impatient after the century with a 13/detroit I had my heart set on was delayed waiting on freightliner to send them title, and have been paying the price(with my parent's help-they're SAINTS) ever since. 2 turbos and cams, the 2nd of each being part of an inframe this july and supposedly being warrantied by volvo(no check yet).

None of that has anything to with lone mountain, they let me get the truck inspected and dyno'd, fixed the oil and air leaks at the time and everything was within spec at the time of purchase. They even worked with me having absolutely horrid credit, and having wrecked my other truck and losing my contract with the company i was leased to, the day after putting in my app. I've been struggling under my own authority since, but with my parent's help I should finally be on the rebound with a fresh engine now. They've been patient with me when I've been late on a payment, and the late fees are relatively minor.

Now I've got a regular route and get home every weekend, struggling at it, but alot of sitting and deadhead was the tradeoff I decided to make to start settling down some.

If the driver takes the truck for 48 hours, who pays for the insurance?

You were lucky to have the support of your family. Unfortunately, you made a mistake like too many others. You get in a hurry and buy what you want rather than what you may need. I never get in a hurry when I am looking for another truck. I usually get a good buy when I take my time. I am glad that you are working through it.

    That would be on them.

Anyone here use ATBS services, or know anyone that does?
