Does the Alberta oil patch shut down during the winter thaw? Or at any time for that matter? I was told that most of Canada shuts down during a few months so the roads will not get damaged.

Depends on the winter. Spring breakup is usually mid March to perhaps mid May but can be earlier, later, longer or shorter or none at all. Just depends on conditions.

Shut down? Some areas do, those that are far back in the muskeg and swamp land especially. There are road bans that go up all over the province, generally between 75%-90% (meaning a truck can haul 75%-90% of its licensed GVW), although some will go to 50% and some will be under a total ban for a while. Some of the activity moves to areas that are less affected by spring break-up. And in other cases they just put more and bigger wheels under it... that's when you see oilfield service trucks being hauled on 16-wheel (or more) lowboys with a tridem tractor. It isn't that the service truck is broken, it is just that it can't meet the road ban without more wheels under it.

    Hello all,
Is there anyone can give me information in regards to working on camp jobs on oil rigs. how much do they usually pay for a new guy (no experience) is it a lot of hrs everyday and so on. any information would be appreciated. one company contacted me yesterday and today they did phone interview. I'm told in couple of days site manager will contact me for on site interview in lloydminster. I had applied for driver position. they also asked if I am willing to work up to 21 days before time off. How much salary I should say that is reasonable for truck driver/labourer for these camp jobs? (they are willing to train me).

Percentage of legal axle weights except you still get 100 percent on the steering.

There's one guy in Wilton county ( Marshall,sk) that was giving tickets out if steers were not at 75% also. A lot of unhappy companies And drivers not sure what the final outcome was after court.
