I was always under the impression, somebody correct me if this is wrong, that if you never get the overhead adjusted that they tighten up over time. That's the reason for adjusting them. Sounds like previous owner of your truck never did.

thats the thing about an overhead cam motor you have to check the adjustment on a regular schedule. not like the old pushtube models where you have a pushtube flexing when they get tight. overhead cams nothing to flex it just breaks.

th guys at th pete place here have done it works fine just changed manifold and turbo will do mine eventually but will go with PDI turbo

well rollin coal from what i was told by the shop that did my overhead things should get loose as time goes on...not get tight...im not sure myself as im not a diesel mechanic. it does sound strange to me that as something wears in a motor that it would tighten up and not get loose but then its strange that a diesel motor can start and run without some kind of spark plug to fire the fuel.
-
I guess thats why im not a millionaire for inventing the diesel motor lol lol

Rollin Coal is correct. As the valve and valve seats wear it allows the valve springs to pull the valve up further reducing the clearance between the crossheads and rocker arms.rollin coal and 07-379Pete Thank this.

If a shop told me what they told you...........I would either push, pull or drive away as fast as I could!!!
When things are right in a motor the valve lash will get tighter from the wear of the valve seat and valve wearing. If the lash is getting loose or loose each time an overhead is ran either the cam lobes and/or cam rollers are wearing.
This is one reason why I always get the same mechanic to run my overhead. He sets them his way and if things are wearing "funny" he would know to look for the problem because is was the last one in the motor.rollin coal Thanks this. -
Learn something every day... I have the same mechanic run my overhead every 100,000 and I'm glad I do. He knows what he's doing and he's the only person I'll ever let wrench on my motor.

ok well that makes since i guess.....id still like to know more about the fuel temp wire. it is a 150 ohm resistor? is that correct?
-
yes 150 ohm 1/2 watt resistor.
