I have 13 years experience in trucking and my wife and I descided to go otr and I saw a listing on craigslist for akal trucking. I took the job because instead of miles they said they pay 18% of the load. I pulled to the yard where truck was and should have ran from that point. I called my dispatcher and let him know almost all the tires where shot. So the only thing he did was put a recap on one of the drive tires. I drove from kent wa to ringgold. ga and was told by my dispatcher to check in with him by text so i did. We made it georgia carrying on our load 450 pounds. so the our next load we picked up 30,000 and made it 20 miles out of georgia and blew our first tire. we called dispatcher right away and he told us that he was busy and would get to us soon. we waited 2 hrs on the side of highway before he called us and asked if we could drive to the nearest exit which was about 5 miles. so we did no other choice at that point. we parked at a firework stand and waited another 7 hours before anyone came out. the tire guys said that he didnt even call tell 7pm. and at one point asked if we had a credit card to pay. the next days we blew out 3 more tires and he put on another recap and used tires. this man cursed by text and phone and threatin me. I called my legal plan service and they advise me to get the truck to his truck yard and take pictures and give my resigation. very long story but this man is refuseing to pay me and wants to sue me. Im takeing legal action myself. I have a new job but behind in my bills and very tight feeding my family.

you would have been better off working a month as a trainer/trainee if your wife needed that to get into it making 350$ /wk...and then xx cents per mile,at ANY of the megacarriers.

18 %???? red flag for me, he prly had you as an IC also,so you have to pay your own tax's,no benefits..you really got bent over, but you not only went with him,but decided to drive the truck even after you saw the bald tires. personally ive never been paid %,but from what i can remember 25% is ok,and 30% is the most you see for company drivers, w/ benefits.

ive called at least 8 owner operators offering positions in my area on craigslist in the past few years, there are literally positions posted every day from any number of sources,in any case, none of them sounded right to me, the most recent one was telling me he offers percentage as well,he told me 50% straight up,i asked if i have to pay for fuel or maintenance and he says no, and i quiz him some more and everything didnt add up for me,he told me to give him a call the next day...(i never did). who pays 50% and pays for all of the overhead expenses?? nobody, especially not some lowly contractor, w/ general bottom dollar cheap freight.

its either what they tell you it is per what they say, and later per contract,or its what they allow you to have, when they allow you to have it,regardless of what was promised.
basically its the wild west on sites like craigslist, its on you to decide if theyre legit or not,and if they arent, youre SOL.

    goodluck

i hope you get your money.

there are plenty of crooks that do these sorts of things because they know that odds are that they wont be sued, and even if they are, the other person likely wont have the documentation or proof to support them.

there are posts like this all the time.

i only hope i would be as calm and rational about an event such as some of the ones ive read about.

No offense, but anyone who takes a job or load off of Craigslist needs their head examined.

I see those Craigslist ads all the time, advertising jobs...the SAME jobs; over and over again. I look at it this way: If a company has to advertise to recruit drivers (Craigslist, truck mags, Sirius/XM, etc.), I wouldn't even bother.

Is this company owned/managed by East Indian/s? Never ever accept any loads from East Indians who are from India. I just quit my job with one, they tried to force me to lie to the drivers, the brokers and the customers. He also paid me $1/hr less than what he promised. I knew this was going to take place because my dad told me never to work for any of them. Jobs are hard to come by in our area but I refuse to sell my soul to the devils. Here's the irony, I am also of Indian ethnicity but from a Western country. I know so many drivers who have been cheated their hard earned money.

Craigslist is just a haven for trouble. Only the shadiest advertisers go on there to advertise and only desperate individuals who don't prescreen these people buy into the crooked advertisers.
