Not many carriers have expanded through this recession though. In fact MOST carriers have downsized and parked many trucks along the fence.

The current turnover rates are down across the board due to fewer jobs and an over abundance of truck drivers.

The first drivers to get laid off were usually dead wood and had service failures of 1 kind or another.

I was not bashing any particular company just simply stating how turnover is measured in this industry.

As for the carrier I work for it is relatively small. Less than 150 trucks under Eastern's banner. I have been here over 10 years and should make a little over 70 grand with time off every weekend so it works for me (Not bad for a lowly company driver in my opinion).

Quick question about similian an flats was he penalized because he didn't report flats or are all drivers penalized for any flats that occur to their trailers???

No... just get it taken care of. If you damaged the vehicle, you have to report it to safety as an "accident." If a lease driver screws the tire up (drags a frozen axle for awhile for example) he may be required to pay for the tire.

ok, got a question for the experienced drivers regarding the trip sheet. have had 2 trainers so far, both were lease drivers. 1st one said all i had to fill out on trip sheet were the following sections, tractor and trailer, name, and the right lower section. 2nd one said i needed to fill in the whole thing basically. and this was even if i went as a company driver. can someone verify this.
    thanks,
    jim.

It sounds like they both have the old trip sheets. Next time you're in Springfield, grab some of the new trip sheets at Driver Lineup. Very little information needs to be filled out on them.
