Oh and I forgot to mention thank you for the responses! Wasn't expecting that many to reply.

Does your job have anything to do with fall farm harvest? If so, it is possible that your company is exempt from hours of service rules... and they are being really nice to you giving you a whole 8 hrs off
-
Farm rules only apply to farmers and the people they hire. Say a processing company comes to his farm and picks up the harvest. Those people are not exempt.
I would talk to your job steward. Evidently there is a contract. And if it's on paper, I highly doubt they are allowed to break FMCSA regs. One thing a union does is allow their workers to be abused and forced to break the law. -
However you dice it up, you can only drive for 11 hours and be on duty for 14 in a 24 hour period. So, since you didn't not get your 10 hour break, the clock is still ticking.
Once you either hit 11 hours of driving or 14 hours of total on duty time, you can not legally drive. And it counts from 5AM forward, not 8PM.
If they want you to "make it work on paper", then I would revisit who you are working for. Most people find a creative way to bury those 2 hours, and that's the crux of the problem with this industry. They expect it.
