Just got back from Farah, Afghanistan, 11 months ago. Definately a small town feel. Not like Iraq at all!!!! Iraq is 40 years ahead of these people in everything! Better hope that the route clearence teams ahead of you are on there game cause they were using 30lbs to 600lbs HME systems against us and we lost 6 trucks (2 Huskys, 3 RG 62's, and 1 HEMMET Wrecker) in our first 6 months there! On a better note we didn't encounter any EFP's and none of my guys were killed in action! Wish you all the best out there!!!
So you want to haul crude oil in the badlands of ND?

What are the best spec for a to work up there in nd.
-
I have a friend who works for an O/O up there in the fields. He is refusing to give me any information so wont be a friend for long. I m dealing with some personal stuff but should be free to do what I want in a few weeks. I have enjoyed reading these threads I have about 1 yr experience and look forward to hitting the oil fields. The only thing he told me was jobs are opening up there now due to drivers not wanting to drive in the weather, I find this hard to believe since I cannot find any open positions anywhere. Any info would be great PM or heck post for all to use. Thanks.

Any O/O looking for a driver in ND.
-
what is the going rate that Owner op's pay drivers.Just put down something so i can pm.
-
The rates I'm seeing and hearing about are trucks with trailers getting from $104 - $128 per hour.
Drivers are getting from $17 to $25 per hour or from 17% to 25%. There are a few $30 per hour jobs that usually require a couple of years of oilfield experience.
Keep in mind that per hour jobs will most likely pay overtime and percentage jobs will most likely not.
Some of the smaller companies don't have housing and are running as many hours as possible with one driver in the truck. Some outfits provide housing and meals.
I looked at a lease contract for a truck and trailer and it was $2 per hour less with housing and meals included. I haven't investigated further but I'm sure this is a man-camp of some sort at $607 per month per driver (70 hours per week per driver * $2 per hour * 4.333 weeks in a month).
I would be hard pushed to take less than 20% to start and it would need to advance toward 25% in a period of time. If the truck is making $110 per hour and you get 22% that is about $24.20 per hour. On 70 hours this would be the same as $19.93 per hour with OT on over 40 hours.
The math: 70 * $24.20 = $1694.00 per week; 40 * $19.93 = $797.20 and $19.93 * 1.5 = $29.895 and 30 * 29.895 = $896.85 and $797.20 + $896.85 = $1694.05.jvar4001 Thanks this. -
I have heard that anyone with a pulse and a CDL can land a job in the North Dakota oil fields. I don't have any oil field experience but I plan on being there by the year's end. I have been inquiring about jobs to a few different employers and all say they will probably be hiring when I'm ready. I'm a little hesitant about getting started in the winter but I guess I'll welcome Spring even more this way.
