You better do some looking into that. Ive seen it paid on the gross revenue of the truck, and ive seen it paid after fuel and surcharge was deducted which is a rip off. Had a friend that hauled grain and they had two pay options, 23% of trucks gross or 28% after fuel and surcharge was deducted. The guys getn 28% was being taken for a ride. Just my opinion dont know your situation. Good Luck Crop Jocky

It is going to depend on the numbers. The reason for after fuel is to provide you an incentive to get better MPG. But I have seen guys pay after fuel on before feul percentages. The after fuel should be a higher percentage. Depending on what you haul pushing the 30% range.

Would also look at the equipment. If they are putting you in some fuel hog hood you may think twice before going with the after plan.

    SHC and BigJohn54 Thank this.

Normally, it's a percentage of the gross revenue. But you might find somebody that wants to do it on the net after fuel to give you more incentive to get better fuel mileage.

Sometimes, it depends on whether you are running as an employee or contracted owner/operator. It would, of course, go in favor of the company in most cases. An employee driver would get his cut after fuel. An owner/operator, before.

I would stay away from percentage unless you really trust the people paying you because its way to easy for them to screw you out of money..

At least on mileage you have some idea of what you are owed..

Percentage is a good way to make money provided you are working for an honest carrier and they let you know the rates before you haul the load.
No honest carrier is going to pay the percentage "after fuel"...Anyone that would work for percentage "after fuel" is a fool!
The other neccessity is that the driver has to be competent enough to understand how percentage works and be able to verify that he is actualy being paid what he has earned.

Most of the modern day "sweatpants and earbuds" crowd can barely sit up in the seat by themselves and don't have the brains required to do anything but figure out their miles for the week!
