Too much depends on where you want to run, how close to home do you want to stay, where is home, and are you equally open to van, reefer, or flatbed?

Every carrier has strengths and weaknesses that vary by region and driver needs and desires. Drivers living out west tend to run more miles because of the massive distances between population centers. The carriers booking a lot of long-haul, coast-to-coast freight are far and few between, and not sure how many hire CDL school grads, if you found one, you may have to be willing to team, and that's not for everyone.

Why so they can sit at home with all the other non working college grads there are in this country. Funny how everyone says go to school and when you are done you can't find a job any quicker than if u skipped school.

I agree with wulfman75. The average cost of a college education at a public university for in-state residents is around $30,000. The average cost for trucking school is around $4,000. So would you rather sit at home with $30,000 in debt or $4,000? And at this point, it might be easier to find a trucking job even if it's a "bad" company.

My post was written as a joke. But since you wanted to point out the fact that there are so many college grads out of work I have to comment further. When anyone in college picks out their major without doing enough research to ensure that what they are majoring in will get them a job upon completion of school. Well to me that is a waste of money. I know that the state of are economy is in dire straights right now but there still is plenty of jobs out there paying over $65,000 a year. But like the OP is trying to do here. The college kid must do before they enter school. Research.
The jobs are there But you have to come out of school with the right degree.
    Well,That's enough of my rant.

My apologise to the OP for hi-jacking your thread.

And yes there are a number of companies you can start with and make decent money. Just do your research.
