I have been reading about the CSA 2010 regulations in my CDL class. The instructor is telling me it will mean the end of trucking as a profession. Most drivers will be pushed out of the industry and carriers will be shut down. It is really that bad?

CSA looks at every violation a carrier receives while Safestat focused on just the out of service violations.

Safestat had 4 areas of focus called SEA for safety evaluation area, Accident, Vehicle, Driver & Safety and the last one was only affected by an audit.

CSA has 7 'BASICs' [behavior analysis and safety improvement categories] and many more of them are directly related to the driver's behavior and performance. They are: Unsafe Driving, Fatigued Driving [HOS], Driver Fitness, Controlled Substances and Alcohol, Vehicle Maintenance, Cargo-Related, and Crash Indicator.

Drivers and carriers will be much more under the microscope and some will be pushed out of business but trucking will continue.

"The end of trucking as a profession"...true...it's becoming clear that trucking is becoming an expensive hobby for the independently wealthy, and CSA 2010 will certainly accelerate that trend.

Trucking will still be around but we are all going to have to watch our P&Q's much better.

Man, you instructor is Captain Sunshine, huh? You are going to see a safer environment in my opinion. The crazy, unsafe drivers will get weeded out. I am sure some good drivers will get caught up due to bad luck bad or temporary insanity.

well i basically say that as well, just i word it a tad differently.....it'll be the end of a career to those that wish to not abide by the rules, regulations that have been in place for generations of truckers....
this is what happens when we do not police ourselves, and we allow others to do it for us....if i ain't said it once, i have said it a thousand times, every time a group of truckers get together say at the truck stop, they all talk about what should be done, and all agree to the conversation...but when each trucker gets up and goes to his truck to go on his way, usually he thinks that "hey i ain't got that time to be bothered, i'll let some other guy take care of it"......

well "that other guy did take care of it"..........

and we will all pay the price for not getting ourselves INVOLVED in making things right......we decided a long time ago, "we ain't got the time, so we will let the other guy take care of it".........

who do we blame...?? who can we blame....???

we ARE our own worse enemy.........

and i tell MY students something much like this....

but i ain't no Captain Sunshine.....

    I'm General Gloom........

i don't feed MY students a bunch of empty promises......like those CDL Mills do....

The real problem is: Goverment should not be invloved!
Everything they get involved in, it gets screwed up.

Frankly I don's see CSA2010 having any impact on the industry as a whole. Most of the "unsafe" drivers out here go undetected, and if one get's detected and get's pushed out, guess what ... 5 more (new CDL holders) will come in to replace him. Of those 5, 3 are more of a safety hazard than the orginal guy who got booted out. And one of the other 2 is not cut out to life the lifestyle.

Is it going to force many carriers to change the way the operate? Probably, but probably only to the detriment of the drivers currently employed there. I wish it could serve to get the driver numbers better in line with the number of driver needed, culling out many, but the pessimist in me does not see this happening. And like I said, the [large] carriers will continue to operate at near 70% of asset capacity, regardless. So, the low miles, long wait times will remain with the job permanently for most.
